sensation412 Posted February 26, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 26, 2007 One of my friends was on a Carnival cruise a year or so ago and told me that the Casino was the place to hit for some free (although watery) drinks onboard.....anyone else have this experience? We are traveling on the Sensation in April and are trying to get a feel for what to plan each day? Thanks!
EggDropErin Posted February 26, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 26, 2007 We never got any free drinks while on the Inspiration a couple years back. We did, however, get a really nice sea pass card holder. It had a clip and a springy cord on it. Very nice. We still use it, even on RCI voyages because they don't seem to offer anything like it. kitty9 Posted February 27, 2007 #3 Share Posted February 27, 2007 No free drinks in any Carnival casino unless you're one of the really big gamblers, and by big I mean you play the $5 slots and sit at the $25 tables. The only lines that hae free casino drinks are the luxury lines like Seabourn and Crystal
barbarah33 Posted February 27, 2007 #4 Share Posted February 27, 2007 If you spend a lot of time in the casino - especially when it isn't totally crowded like after dinner, and you get to know the pit-bosses and managers they will occasionally buy you a drink. (Or at least they have for me on Carnival, Princess and NCL.) But you do need to be there a lot during the quiet times when you can be noticed and being friendly never hurts. But I don't believe this is the 'standard' practice on any of the major cruise lines at all. In general you are to pay for any drinks you want on the ship. I just went on the Sensation 02/14/2007 and free drinks were not being given in the casino area to those gambling (a.k.a. isn't like Vegas)
joker0227 Posted February 28, 2007 #6 Share Posted February 28, 2007 I have seen free drinks given at some of the table games, especially if bets are being made for the casino dealers. I typically throw in a buck or two on all my hard-way bets on the craps table just to keep the casino dealers involved and it can get you a free drink, but you or someone else definitely has to ask for it and it does depend on the pitboss/manager that is on at the time. We had a pretty full craps table going on the Legend and things were going well for the rollers and eveyone on the pass line. Bets were routinely being made for the dealers and at one point the roller said, "Would the house be willing to buy us a drink?" and the Pitboss promptly got a waitress over to the table and she got us drinks on the house. My wife and I also got a surprise at our dinner table one night as well when the dealers bought us a bottle of really nice wine. It wasn't that I lost a lot, it's just that I made bets for the dealers and at times, when I was lucky, I made them a lot of tip money, which they obviously really appreciated and I thought the token of their appreciation was pretty cool. I think if you're going to get a free drink, it's only going to happen at a Black Jack, Craps, Caribb. Stud or one of the other action-type, multi-player games. I don't think you'll get any free drinks at the slot machines. I think it comes down to someone putting the casino management on the spot and they don't want to turn their customers off, so I do think a free drink or two can and has been accomplished by many in the past, but you're definitely not going to get more then 1 or 2 in the duration of your trip unless you really establish a good relationship with the casino staff. My husband played Texas Hold 'Em just about every night & they got A FREE DRINK one night. That was it. But how much money had they spent/lost by then?
