oops..forgot the change in government..the old one not only would have let you in they would have given you a Canada Council Art grant to do assassinations as performance art

LOL!!!! And then CBC-TV would have done an hour long special on you, and a five part autobiography on CBC-Radio!

Seriously - I read the official wording, and it appears to me that those who are in danger are primarily people with drug offences. So that misdemeanor for a doobie back in 1975 may come back to bite you now ... I suspect this will go the way of a lot of the other regulations. When enough people complain, someone in Ottawa will back down. Better yet - when some major US star or a politician is denied entry, all heck will break loose!

They are looking at misdemeanours. Frankly, the US/Canada border has become a battleground for absolutely no good reason. Both sides are treating the citizens with disrespect. (And I'm not even going to go into the Arar case and Rice's promise about cooperation except when it comes to solving that particular case).

Too funny!:D

My brother was arrested for possessing pot back in the late seventies/early eighties. He applied for, and got, a pardon, so he could go to the States.

From what I heard, even if somebody got a pardon for any crime does not give them permission to enter Canada.

The same goes for a Canadian trying to get into the USA. I know several people who got denied entry to the US because of a impaired driving charge back in the 60's and another person for under $50.00 shoplifting charge. Both had pardons from Canada but they were told that pardons don't mean a row of beans to the USA and not permitted back into the USA unless they apply for a waiver for a nice fee............

I wonder if the drug runners, murderers and child porno perverts have the same kind of problems trying to get into the other country.

Yes, the new government is so much better.

They'll just call the White House to find out what their opinion is before they make any decisions....

Good thing I finally paid that $5 toll from the 407 outside of Toronto, a local told me they don't bill out of province/country plates (no toll booth, cameras get your plate #. ) But I showed them, I waited till they spent $5 in postage before I paid! :D

If the Ontario economy collapses, its my fault.

Gee, you would think with his head already up GWB's butt that he wouldn't actually need to make a phone call.

I find it interesting that now that Canada may have adopted some stricter regulations at our borders for our U.S. friends there's a problem. Since

9-11, the situation at U.S. border crossing for Canadians has changed immensly, now i'm not saying it's a bad thing, but we've been dealing with it for years, now all of a sudden the tables are turned & things aren't necessarily so nice. I'm in the transport business and over the years we've had Canadian truck drivers refused entrance at US customs for minor offences that they might have encountered in their youth. I think we'd all agree that we want to make our world a better safer place but i think that our Government is just catching up with yours. It may suck but that's the way it is, IMHO

Thanks to stricter border regulations and probably line-ups, we'll be leaving very early in the morning to make it over the border as we drive to port.

JUST in case of any issues going into the states and back out of the states.

Either way...I love Canada & there is no place like her. I swear, when I'm in the states, I pretty much hold my breath the entire time I'm there, and let out a big sigh of relief when I'm back over the border. Good o'l Canada!

It's nice that people with misdemeanors from 30-40 years ago will have a problem getting into the US from Canada, but our government is doing nothing about all the illegals that have entered & are still entering from Mexico.

Looks like they've got it all figured out.

Its all very funny but FYI, should you have any outstanding tickets there is a bench warrent issued. This means when they swipe your documents through their little computer they will show up. YOu will be stopped and detained and fined. Good luck to all you speed chasers
