Opening connecting balconies?

THey opened ours on teh Mariner and on teh SOS we were told they had to get a tool but thenm our cabin steward just came in and gave it a push and it opened... we were able to open and close our connecting with no troubles it just slid right open...

Well.... I don't think you're supposed to, but.... our last cruise on the Grandeur was the one that got "shipwrecked" in Costa Maya for 3 days. Our group had 5 balcony rooms in a row and we did open the dividing panels. I have to say it was pretty awesome. I believe the danger is in having them unlocked while the ship is moving. Our steward was aware of what we had done but never said anything.

We were on Mariner New Year's week in connecting E-1 cabins. Our room steward got her supervisor who had the magic "tool" and --- voila!-- we had our connecting balconies opening. It was great!

Last September on the Mariner, we had cabins 8656 and 8658- not connecting rooms. We asked and were able to have the balcony door opened between them. Though the cabin staff tried on the first day they were unable to do so; however, on day 2, they had someone from maintenance come and (using wd40?) he was able to open them.
