cruisin4funtoo Posted March 1, 2007 #1 Share Posted March 1, 2007 We have adjoining rooms on Mariner and was wondering if the balconies can be opened to make them adjoining also. Anyone out there request this or have it done before?
petel Posted March 2, 2007 #2 Share Posted March 2, 2007 Don't think so.......all are welded and bolted in place. Have heard about this on other lines but never on RCI.
cb at sea Posted March 2, 2007 #3 Share Posted March 2, 2007 Don't plan on it! Some ships do have locking balcony dividers, but they are hardly ever opened. Usually, they say it's for "security" reasons. Plus, if the balcony IS opened, there goes your privacy!!! Your neighbor will be able to see in your room, which means keeping the drapes drawn--then, what's the point of a balcony??????
kayguz Posted March 2, 2007 #4 Share Posted March 2, 2007 We were on the Mariner in May and it was no trouble to open the balcony divider between our two rooms. We had 2 D1's. Hoping that is the case again this May. Kay
nanarena Posted March 2, 2007 #5 Share Posted March 2, 2007 We were on the Mariner last year in two junior suites on the hump. We had them open our balcony--it was great. Just ask your room steward.
Lisa and Scott Posted March 2, 2007 #6 Share Posted March 2, 2007 We were on the Mariner 2/11/07. We had adjoining balconies on Deck 6 (6606 and 6608). Our Cabin Attendent had the balcony divider opened for us on the first day - no problem at all.
Pologuy Posted March 2, 2007 #7 Share Posted March 2, 2007 We have adjoining rooms on Mariner and was wondering if the balconies can be opened to make them adjoining also. Anyone out there request this or have it done before? My In-laws just came off the MAriner and had their adjoining balconies unlocked, all they did was ask the cabin steward. teese Posted March 2, 2007 #8 Share Posted March 2, 2007 Wow, fantastic news we have adjoining D1's next March on Mariner!
DonnaK Posted March 2, 2007 #9 Share Posted March 2, 2007 It seems to be at the discretion of the crew, as some people report that it was no problem, and others report that their request was refused. So it's hard to predict what will be allowed on your cruise with your particular cabins. Last year on Mariner, the balcony divider between our two cabins was bolted/welded in such a way that it was not physically able to be opened (although the cabins were next to each other, they did not have a connecting inside door). Neither were the dividers on our Explorer or Adventure balconies. We were told that on Mariner, the rule is that they will only open balconies for connecting cabins. We have two connecting D1's this year, but I'm not counting on anything until I actually get there and it happens, because we all know how many times inccorect info is given by customer service. isujim Posted March 2, 2007 #10 Share Posted March 2, 2007 Don't think so.......all are welded and bolted in place. Have heard about this on other lines but never on RCI. Pete now necessarily true.........we had balconies on the hump (jr suites) and had them open the balconies with our friends.......they were not welded shut.........the steward could not open them and had to call security........they made it up the next morning and we had them open between the two cabins for the entire cruise......... Now I can't speak on other cabin categories............but it sure was nice to have ours open with our friends.
nanarena Posted March 2, 2007 #11 Share Posted March 2, 2007 Our cabins were not adjoining (jr suite on the hump) and they did open them for us. I guess it really is at the discretion of the crew. Good luck. Rena (Mrs isujim)
snausman Posted March 2, 2007 #12 Share Posted March 2, 2007 Last May on the Mariner we had two rooms side by side. A JS and a D1 the cabin steward said he could not open the dividers but called maintance and they were there inabout an hour. Took them about one minute to open the dividers. It was really nice with the big open balcony. Just ask, you never know. Laura
