Packing List?

Recommended Posts

Hi! We always take some thank you notes or cards and a few small boxes or bags of candy or maybe Bath and Body Works for ladies or if the men can't eat candy something small like a gift card, or special nuts or other treat. We use these for special cabin stewards, special waitstaff, maitreD, and any other crew member that gives us extra fine service. You know the kind that you feel like you know them like family after a day or two. My daughter and I love to sit on the promenade or on deck and write special notes to them. Be sure to include your email address, you may hear from them! What we take doesn't take up much space, and it sure has put smiles on a lot of faces of people that work so hard to make our cruise special! Happy Cruising!:)

That's a great idea. :D You and your DD sound like really nice people. Keep it up!! It's especially great as some of those people might not have the money to buy those things themselves (particularly the bath/body goodies). :D

I always bring my own pillow and pillow case whenever we travel, even on a cruise! I have back issues and use a cervical pillow. I make sure it has a brightly colored pillowcase on it so I don't forget it. I use one of the big "zip lock" type bags, squeeze the air out and it is extremely flat. It goes in the front pocket of my 22" carry-on.

I started to bring my own also a few years and ago. I certainly get a much better sleep.

  1. 2 regular sized beach towels

Hi indie,

There is no need to bring your own towels. They are provided for you on the ship. And they are really nice, thick, soft blue towels with the Carnival logo on them. I really love them and am thinking of buying one on my next cruise. :D

Remember that the airlines now charge for luggage that is over the 50 lb. limit so don't pack unecessary things or you'll end up paying extra! Delta charges $25 for anything over 50 lbs.

If flying foreign airlines, you need to also check them. We flew Air New Zealand and they had a limit of 20 Kg (44lbs) (only 1 checked bag) and 7 (16lbs) Kg (only 1 carry on bag). The enforced it and weighed bags. ;) I had to transfer a book from my bag to my wife's bag to make the checkin weight.

We were gone for a month, and doing things like snorkeling that required "non clothing" items, and found it very limiting. But we made it and avoided the high charges.

We did have to wash twice during the trip, but it did give us a new discipline I hope to carry over to future trips.

hey :) , thanks Avril! I did read somewhere about the towels? How much do they cost to buy? I just didnt want to lose any carnival towels by taking them off of the ship, also i have some cheapo not so thick and fluffy towels, but i think they should be easier to throw in a backpack when we get to ports of call.

I believe they're about $22. If you just take them out of your cabin (and don't return them) or lose them, Carnival will automaticly charge the $22 to yur Sail and Sign account. Airlines are charging for bags that are over the weight limit so you definitly don't want to take anything that you don't really need (such as beach towels).

Enjoy your cruise. :D I know I can't wait for mine!!!! :D What ship are you going on?

I don't think you need one. I never have on any of my cruises. I was on the Imagination (a sister ship to Inspiration) for my 1st cruise and I don't remember wether there was a hair dryer or not. I will add it to the list just in case.

Indie, you will LOVE your cruise. Have a blast!!!! :D I can't wait for mine in February 2008. I'm taking my boyfriend with me (it will be his 1st cruise) and I am just SO excited!!!! :D I'm trying to think of what to tell him as it's been about 4 years (and 7 cruises) since I was a 1st time cruiser and I forgotten what it's like to be one!! :o Any 1st timer advice on what I should tell him before we sail? Oh, we're going on Carnival's Conquest.

alwzrgt, as usual, you are right on the money. You are the only one whose list included "medication"! That's one of the most important things not to forget!

Thanks to the person that mentioned taking a plug that has three places to plug things into instead of a power strip. It will be much easier to pack. :D

Hey Indie, if you have any questions about cruising or just want to chat, you can email me at assumptionchic@gmail.com

Now, I've never been on Inspiration so I can't comment on the ship but like I said before, I was on her sister ship Imagination so I can give you a general idea.

I actually keep my pilot bag (that I jokingly call my "40 pounds of natural beauty") packed at all times. I have duplicates of all my "ladies" stuff (makeup, hair brush, curlers, deoderant, perfume, hair dryer etc etc etc)

That way when I am ready to travel (be it cruise, the RV or by car) all I have to do is throw the clothes in a suitcase.

As I have gotten older (and more forgetful) I depend on my "loading list" more than my "packing list". I want to make sure everything gets in the car:

documents

fun pass

passports

money

etc

What a great idea!!!! I'm 22 and I forget things all the time (real stupid things to forget such as my PJs, socks, sometimes underwear, etc). This would definatly make life easyer. :D

I packed a little travel bottle of Bath and Body Works antibacterial hand soap and kept it in the bathroom. They only give you a little bar of soap and I was so glad to have the good stuff. Just an idea and it doesn't take up very much room.

Happy Cruising!

You can combine lysol and air freshener. I always travel with Lysol. My DH learned last flight not to tell them it is in the bag. They made us give it up at the airport...we may just wait until we fly into FLL to buy this essential. :)

My husband and I were making our list last night, and we are just taking the essentials. Also, my sis is in the Caribbean right now, and the airline lost her luggage. You definitely want to take a carry on with you on the plane with essentials (3 oz. bottles of toiletries) and clothing.

We also are packing a bit of wine and a corkscrew. ;) We are also big fans of the iGo. We use it on the plane for our movie and we also use it to charge things we bring with us. :)

I know I have seen a packing list somewhere on here but I can't find it. I am trying to finish a list that I started from these boards but for some reason, never finished. Does anyone have anything to add? So far, I have:

Bungee Cords

Power Strip

Clothes Pins

Highlighters

Post it Notes

Cruise Docs

ID (Passport, Birthcertifict, etc)

Money (Cash, Credit Cards)

Portable Clock

Extra Duffle Bag

Cell Phone

Blender

Duct Tape

Lots of dollar bills for tipping

Suntan Lotion

Contact Phone Numbers (tours, airport, car service, family, etc)

Pants and Shotrs with Elastic Waists (1-2 sizes bigger than you normaly wear)

Extra Film/Memory Cards

Door Shoe Holder (for bathroom)

Tall coffee sipper

Large bar of soap

Nightlight

Suction Hooks

Steamer/Iron

Mailing Box (for photos, door sign, etc)

Mirror (with suction)

Notepad/Tape

Wigs (  )

Small box of kleenex

Hand Sanitizer

Air Sqwoosh out bags for undies/wrinkleables

Garment Bag for fancy duds

Anything else?

Thanks in Advance!! :D

Your list has everything except clothing. Where are you planning to put all of this stuff? Why do you need a mirror? There is one in every cabin. Besides, it is going to break before you get it on the ship. You've got extra film/memory cards, but not camera. You've got way to much stuff. I'm glad I don't have to carry your bags. Are you reserving two cabins (one for all your stuff)?
