Dream Fish Posted March 5, 2007 #2 Share Posted March 5, 2007 When we lived in Juneau we would do that hike about once a year. I'd say it's moderate to hard, but worth it. Walking up the streets and then the stairs to the trail is tiring in itself, but if you take it slow, stop and rest it's not bad. Once on the trail it turns to switchbacks, and there are some nice lookouts with views over Juneau. It's a good trail and you shouldn't get lost, it ends at the tram. (when in doubt head up) You didn't say when you are going, but if it's in August or when the berries are on, watch for bears, just talk a lot and you should be fine. We've seen scat, but never the bear. If you eat at the top at the restuarant save your reciept and you can ride the tram down by showing that. (I think it has to be $5 a person, but they don't look very close). I've never rode the tram up, always hiked the trail up and the tram down. Budget Queen Posted March 6, 2007 #3 Share Posted March 6, 2007 It's a LONG way down, I did this several years ago. Took several hours with our slow group. :) All, Switchbacks and if it has rained the past prior days, I would skip it, a massive mud slick!!!
