Formal nights on Pride of Aloha???

I am new to CC so I hope this hasn't been posted before(looked but couldn't find answer anywhere).

I will be cruising 1/12/08 to 1/23/08 on the NCL Pride of Aloha. I was wondering if there is a formal night(s)? Everything that I have read is about casual wear and I don't want to show up under dressed.

I have just looked at the Freestyle Dailies from the Pride of Aloha from January (See Hawaii Discussion Thread, A cc cruiser has them, he will e-mail them to you), there are no formal nights or Dress up nights listed.

Even if there were formal or "dress up" nights - on NCL or NCLA they are ALWAYS completely optional. In my experience on NCL ships, only about 1/4 or 1/3 of the people in the dining room were 'dressed up' on the "optional formal" nights. Resort casual wear is always appropriate on an NCL or NCLA ship.

All formal nights on all NCL & NCL-A are optional. You can dress up or not, it is completely up to you! They usually have an "optional formal" night or "dress as you want" night. Or whatever they are calling it these days! But like Zeno said, only about 30-40% dress up and that ranges from tuxes to shirt/tie. Another 30% usually wear Hawaiian attire on these cruises and the rest are in resort casual.

We just returned from the March 18th Pride of Aloha cruise, very nice! In regards to your question, this is Hawaii very relaxed, invest in Hawaiian Shirts and Island Casual for this cruise.

 

When you arrive on the ship you will receive a "Entertainment Highlights" page which will outline the Dress Suggestions for the week as well as the entertainment. (See attached Photo of Page).

There was an optional formal night on our 3/11 Pride of Aloha cruise -- the second or third night. Some people were very dressed up -- saw some military dress uniforms -- but most dressed casual. My parents wore their Hawaiian shirts and leis for their formal portraits :p (which, by the way, were the best pictures they've ever taken!)

On a recent survey most people wanted dress up nights , meaning jacket and tie, dinner suits and of course smart casual. Please be aware of other statisticians on this site pushing their own agenda regarding their dress codes on NCL.

I seem to remember that the recent survey on this board indicated that people wanted the "Optional formal" choice. Optional formal DOES not mean "dress up nights" it means to dress as you chose as long as you meet the "resort casual" code.

Seems like the pot calling the kettle black with your last comment. You are the leading person on here for pushing your desired dress code of suits and ties because that is what you want to see.

 

The truth is that NCL has an "Freestyle" dress code and "Optional Formal" nights. You DO NOT have to wear a suit and tie unless YOU want to. It is up to each individual's choice, not someone elses' outdated opinion.

Please feel free to dress as YOU like. Whether it is formal, resort casual or Hawaiian attire, it doesn't matter!! You will not be out of place in any of those choices!

There are two Optional Formal Nights on this cruise.All the OP wanted was a simple answer on the Pride of Aloha, not a forum for the "Usual Suspects, NCL Dress Code Bashers".

Well then, I guess I'd better be the exception: As long as you meet the minimal requested attire for the dining rooms and restaurants, you should feel free to wear what you like. Optional formal is just that: optional. I'm thrilled not to have to haul along all the "stuff" for formal nights. DH and I have "been there, done that" for decades and it's not a priority for us now. (This does not mean we'll come to dinner dressed sloppily or in less than the basic requests of casual slacks and collared shirt for men and slacks/skirt with top/sweater or dress for women.)
