On Board Celebrity -- Getting a massage...

Ok....thinking of getting a massage, or the hot stone thing, on board the Celebrity Mercury in a few weeks in Alaska. Do they have male masseurs on board, or is one limited to "Steiner chicks", as they are sometimes called? Not that women can't give good massages, but I'd just prefer a guy if I'm getting that naked. Not looking for "happy ending" etc., so get your mind out of the gutter lol! :)

Hi Jeff,

I try whenever possible to get a male therapist. I have one here at home and prefer the same when I am on vacation. I have never had a problem finding a male MT on Celebrity. The best I ever had was Ivan on Galaxy. Have had the Steiner girls too but Ivan was much better (and more firm with the massage). He was nothing but professional (although he was a cutie)! If I wanted action it would not be after my massage (that is for relaxation only). There are other places for that and we all know where they are (atleast I've read about them... LOL).

Also, I prefer the hot stones. It was awesome but very expensive. It was $175 for 90 minutes and I only pay $100 here at home. Oh well, it's vacation so what can you expect. I try to get a massage the first day (second at latest) because I find it helps me relax sooner and then I enjoy the cruise that much more. Then usually one mid cruise and a final massage the day before disembarkation (if I haven't yet run out of money)!

Have fun,

Scott

I was stoned by a male therapist on Pacific Princess – and he was a Steiner chick. His BF was a dealer in the casino! Anyway, I have noticed on Princess ships there are a good percentage of male therapists – I would think it would be the same for all Steiner spas.

No offense to the ladies, but the male touch is just…well, different…you know…

I too prefer a male masseur - they give stronger massages, and its also a fingernail thing. if i wanted ladies fingernails all over my back, i'd have stayed straight and married....

I had a massage while on the Mercury and like you, prefer a male to give the massage. I must say that the person who I received as my masseur was nice and nice looking but the massage was about the worst I have ever had at any cost. Not worth it at all.

The best massage I've even gotten was by a man. This occured while in a Spa Sydel in Atlanta. It was my first massage ever. I asked for a guy ... and when I walked into the massage room, a huge (think football player) black gentleman came in and with the deepest voice introduced himself. I really thought he would break me into little pieces and laugh afterwards. But, to this day, I remember how remarkably soft and strong his hands were. So much so that I fell asleep halfway though it.

Ironically, the same day, my friend had a massage at the same place, and ended up with bruised ribs from a woman massuer. Go figure.

I just did the stone massage at the Eden Rock Spa in Miami. It was ok .. prefer the hand massage more I think. Plus the lady wasnt' too good.

Has anyone been "embarassed" before while getting a massage from a cute guy? What happens then?

Between this and the “Romance at Sea” thread, I could come out looking like a real tart. So, I’ll leave it up to you to figure out what happened, but it was after he finished the massage...and note that it did not happen on a ship…more of an “in-call.”

Anyway, a male therapist doesn’t necessarily mean a more potent massage in comparison to what the female counterpart might do. I had a 4’8” South African woman do a deep tissue massage on me on one of my cruises…she rode my back on her elbows – I was sore for three days.

I have found it very difficult to find male massage therapists on ships.. Steiner does seem to favor women for that.. but there are some. On QM2, which was Canyon Ranch, the BF and I had a lot of treatments, and did one with a guy that was horrible. The women were better. And if you get any of the Thai treatments like reflexology, those little Thai women could knock you out with their strength.

I'm wondering about the facilities aboard the Grand. I've seen previous posts from Bdjam about the sailing on theGrand. Is the gender specific saunas and steam rooms off the locker rooms? What about the massages? Any embarrasing moments worth passing along? Looking for any tips to make the December sailing memorable.

Thanks!

Can't remember what the sauna was like on the Golden Princess. The gym was decent, although a bit small I thought for a ship that size. I do remember this -- the two personal trainers on board were the hottest I've ever seen on a ship!
