am I the only cruiser on any of these threads that just doesnt car that they are doing this? When we camp we have to pay for the electricity we dont use, but its just part of the cost of camping. I love the free fruit punch and tea so Im set :)

No, I don't care either... then again, I don't have a can of soda hooked up to an IV pump 24/7 either :p LOL

As for the reasons... Carnival stated their reasoning:

"There had been some abuse of the previous policy which is why the new policy is more restrictive," he said.

As I mentioned in the other gazillion threads on this over the last week... if every person brought on a 6 pack of soda/water, that is over $20 Million worth... Carnival isn't stupid, they are a business

I am a little disappointed because my husband drinks Diet Dr. Pepper. I'm sure this has been answered 85 times, but what if I received my cruise documents before this new rule? I have read that Carnival basically has a clause in their contract that says they can change the contact without notice blah..blah.blah. But do you really think they are enforcing this? There will be lots of shocked/disappointed people in line because the majority of cruisers have never been on cruise critic to find out this new rule.

You know- I'm kind of annoyed with this. I booked Carnival because I knew I could bring on a 6 pack of coke and a 12 pack of water- which is about all I need for a 8 day cruise. I plan to drink their water at dinner, but those I know who have cruised did not care for it in the cabin. It's probably the same thing, but chilled water always tastes different. Don't tell me I don't have enough money to cruise just because I don't want to pay ridiculous mini bar (or cruise line) prices. Now, I will just go without Coke, but I'm annoyed at the prospect of going without water except at meals.

But this is what really gets me. You can still bring one bottle of wine on per person. For my DH, who drinks wine, this is wonderful. But I don't drink. Why can't I bring on one wine sized bottle of water? Why is it only wine we can bring on? To penalize those of us who don't drink it?

I don't feel that I'm entitled to be able to bring on coke and water, but it was something that was advertised to me when I booked. It was part of the reason I booked. So while I don't feel mislead, because the policy hadn't been changed at the time, well the "pros" column for Carnival just went down. I don't know how much cruising there will be in my future.

Doesn't matter... if you booked your cruise solely because you could bring Diet Dr Pepper, maybe see if they will waive the cancellation fee and book on a line that will let you bring it...

But yes, they can change anything, at any time, without notice... they can even cancel your cruise when you get to the port, for the hell of it.

I don't think there will be "lots of shocked" people... Not everyone brings their own drinks onboard.

Shortly, CCL will be giving away cruises if you promise to stay on board!
Sign me up for one every 3 months..! :)

I'll be happy to stay onboard and drink iced tea and lemonade... :D

I'd even be happy to pay $6. for a big can of Fosters..

I read this whole thread.

It doesn't make much sense to me.

If I want to smuggle my Jack Daniels on board all I have to do is get my buddy who makes wine to bottle me up a wine bottle of Jack.

I don't want booze; I just want some low sodium soft drinks and some low sodium water.

I drank the water on my last Carnival cruise and swelled up like a tick...very uncomfortable...

If this policy is still in effect, I guess I'll get a doctor note.

You can buy a 1.5 liter bottle for $3.50, it will actually be IN your cabin...

Also, you can ask for a pitcher and get the cold water...

They allow a bottle of wine or champagne, meant to be to celebrate a special occasion... if you drink water to celebrate that occasion, they have water onboard for free so no need to bring it... it's really good water.

I can only drink water an sodas in bottles when I cruise. For whatever reason, the ship's water and anything made with it makes my feet and ankles swell up like baloons. I can't believe that Carnival will no longer allow you to bring water on board!

It is the bean counters but they are being soo bloody stupid. Charge a decent price or give passengers a self service option (a store in which they can buy their own stuff with out the 15% gratuity) and guess what passengers won't feel the need to bring onbord and will buy from the cruise lines. Cruiselines however got greedy and are trying to get rich quick!!

Cruiselines listen!!! Be reasonable in your pricing and you will sell more without catching the bad publicity. If people get the feeling they are getting ripped off they are just not going to buy no matter what you are threatening.

Being reasonable with non alcoholic beverages might also have the one or other passenger rethink his or her Alcohol consumption - we found this to be very much more on Carnival than on any other cruiseline we have sailed on during spring break!!! There were soo many more drunks around I began understanding why Carnival has soo many acidents with drunks...

BRAVO !!!

I totally agree with this !:D

If anyone hasn't seen the 400 threads on this already over the last week, they need their eyes examined :p They have water on the ship... perfectly fine, and free. As for pepsi, what do you do at restaurants that only serve coke??

Get a life like the majority of us I guess. A few, who insisted on taking on cases and cases of stuff ruined it for everyone.

If you can't go for a week without 48 cans of Dr. Pepper, you have a problem and should see a specialist.

While it may be a new policy in their FAQ's and online contract, the contract issued with the tickets for all people sailing very soon (who already have their docs), still says "reasonable amount". That is the cruise contract they purchased and accepted in good faith, and the one that is enforceable.

.

But another part of the policy states that Carnival can change their policy at any time without any notice.

So can we still argue what the contract says, when another part says basically, everything is void if we decide to change our mind as you walk on the ship.

We need to know for ammunation purposes;)

I thought it did too, but cannot find that section in the contract. Their policy is not the same as the contract. The contract is the legally binding part, and it specifically gives you the right to bring non-alcohol on board (until changed)

this is closest I can find, and does not give them the right to change without notice:

The Vessel shall be entitled to leave and enter ports with or without pilots or tugs, to tow and assist other vessels in any circumstances, to return to or enter any port at the Master’s discretion and for any purpose and to deviate in any direction or for any purpose from the direct or usual course, and to omit or change any or all port calls, arrival or departure times, with or without notice, for any reason whatsoever, including but not limited to safety, security, adverse weather, strikes, tides, hostilities, emergency debarkations of Guests or crew, or late air, sea, car or motor coach departures or arrivals, all such deviations being considered as forming part of and included in the proposed voyage. Carnival shall have no liability for any compensation or other damages in such circumstances.

Also, note the very first paragraph

THIS DOCUMENT IS A LEGALLY BINDING CONTRACT ISSUED BY CARNIVAL CRUISE LINES TO, AND ACCEPTED BY, GUEST SUBJECT TO THE IMPORTANT TERMS AND CONDITIONS APPEARING BELOW.

For someone wanting to push it, the legally binding contract is on their side. Carnival can only limit what is "reasonable". However, zero would never be considered reasonable.
