SylviaB Posted August 3, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2004 Does anybody know the average price for a return ticket from Boston or Chicago to Orlando? We're thinking of visiting some friends in Boston or Chicago before we go on our next cruise. Or if anyone knows any website for cheap airfares, that would be great too! Thanks! kitty9 Posted August 3, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 3, 2004 Unfortunately, there's no such thing as an average price for airlines. They seem to change their price structure as often as you change undergarments. You can call to get a price for a flight, and then call again 5 minutes later for the same flight and get completely different prices. You can try expedia.com or priceline.com for fares. parody Posted August 4, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 4, 2004 While it is true that airlines change their fares often, an (historical) average air fare exists and can be easily obtained for over 6000 city pairs at http://farereport.com/. Keep in mind that this average is computed over all ticket types -- for example, folks traveling on leisure, as well as business trips where the ticket may have been purchased at the last minute and thus with a much higher average fare. In any event it does provide some useful information. For example, the average one-way fare between Chicago and Orlando was $121 on American Trans Air which has the largest market share (35%). From Boston to Orlando, the average air fare is $123 on Delta, the largest carrier with a 71% market share.
jimc_usa Posted August 19, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 19, 2004 http://dps1.travelocity.com/dreamMap.ctl?SEQ=106667567270425310202003&LANG=EN This will allow you to put in your own airport as a base and then show you the lowest airfares. You can also put in a choice of flexible dates to find say..... the cheapest fares between now and nex March
