If you like barroque sculpture you must see the Salzillo Museum in Murcia, not far away of Cartagena. Salzillo's is one of the best barroque museums you can see. Most of Salzillo's works are there. It justifies the excursion.

Otherwise, you have a lot of golf courses where you can play golf near Cartagena.

Cartagena is one of the oldes cities of Europe and was founded by the foenicians being the capital of the Iberian peninsula at their time.

We were there last Sept. Very old charming town with some Roman ruins as well as mediveal bits & bobs. Some Pedestrianised streets. Very walkable - bit of a rabbit warren so you may get lost - we did - take a ball of string.:p

You dock right there & there was a tiny tourist kiosk with a street map.

There is a naval museum nearby. Cartegena was/is the one of the main ports for the spanish navy so lots of references to their naval history & the old exlporers. there is also an early submarine at the dock side.

I am sure there will be other shore excursions - it depends on what you want to do.
