bzv143 Posted August 4, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 4, 2004 Which land tour offered by Princess is the best in Juneau? How is the float plan to the lodge for salmon dinner vs. the heliocopter walkabout? Appreciate any responses as we need to choose soon! Thanks, Barbara
duckygirl Posted August 4, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 4, 2004 The helicopter walkabout is fantastic. We did the one hour walkabout, but other family members went on the 2 hour trek. They loved it and we were jealous seeing them going up the side of the glacier. You can book directly with NorthStar Trekking or you can go thru Princess. Make your excursion reservation as soon as you can as it fills up quickly.
Budget Queen Posted August 4, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 4, 2004 I have done both, but I never book ship excursions and always book independent. The glacier helicopter landing is my top choice, so much so, I have done it 6 times. But clearly going independent is superior, the ship contractor ERA can be very shuttle like, also using larger helicopters- middle seats. I like going with Coastal, always landing in secluded spots and more personal service- cheaper too at $180 for a single landing. Glacier trekking with Northstar gets consistant raves. For me flying via floatplane is tops in Misty Fjord- all sightseeing. I found I was ready to leave the salmon bake long before we did. Fairly short flight compared to the total time. balanceok Posted August 4, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 4, 2004 and contact Capt. Larry at Orca Enterprises for his whale watching trip. We've done this twice and have truly enjoyed each experience. In our opinion, this is a must in Juneau. :)
mii Posted August 4, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 4, 2004 Maaybe you can try the Ports of Call board under Alaska. There is a wealth of info over there. Hope that helps. Marilyn
