Any difference between sea & sun princess?

Could anyone please tell me if there is any difference between the sea and the sun princess.

We have been on the sun princess twice and are due to go on the sea princess this summer and would like to know if it is basically the same ship.

We have also always cruised out of America and this time will be going from Southampton so should we expect to see any differences.

We never take off our auto tips but have heard that this is the norm from UK based cruises - Is this info correct?

Any info would be appreciated :)

The only real difference we saw between the Sun Princess and Sea Princess is the size of the casino. Since Princess feels that European crusiers don't gamble as much, but are more into board games and such, they have cut the casino in half on the Sea Princess. One side is set up with tables for board games and several large screen TV's with sofa areas for viewing sporting events. The other side is a small casino with slots and tables for gambling.

Other than that, the ships are the same we felt.

The ships are sisters, and for the most part the same layout - however, the casino on Sea Princess is reported to be smaller than the Sun's.

I'm told that the kitchen prepares more English dishes (as opposed to American), as Sea Princess is highly marketed in the UK.

There have been several threads re tipping differences between American and Brits, and I don't feel qualified to comment on the customs of our friends across the pond.

Thank you to everyone for their quick responses - much appreciated!:)

One other question - how do people find the seats in the theatre? comfy or not? would like to hear any comments.

Thanks again

I found everywhere comfortable, especially after a couple of cocktails!

As for the tipping, I'd love to see a poll on the subject, or some comments from ship personnel, but I doubt that will happen.

I think that the main difference you should expect is that somewhere between 60% and 90% of passengers on Sea Princess will be from the UK. The on-board product appears to be geared towards that in a number of small but significant ways. (The smaller casino is one of those alterations - largely unchanged since the ship was doing her stint as P&O's Adonia.) But just the presence of that many UK cruisers is going to change the atmosphere on board the ship. You may like it or you may not: that's going to be very personal. But it will be rather different.

It's true about the half-size casino. In the evening, when the casino is busier, it can be difficult to find any slot machines available.

Re: theater seats - they are as comfortable as those in other Princess ships that we have sailed on. No problem at all. And they have those nice little

tables that pull up out of the armrest, so if you order a beverage (or bring one with you) you don't have to sit and hold it.

We enjoyed the British PAX on our recent Sea Princess cruise, as well as the items served in the Horizon Court that were made available for the British folks. The English sausage served every morning at breakfast was delicious, and the English bacon was much less salty then the American version.

Hi There,

have done Sea andd Sun so some other points not made by others,

on Sea you will get both US and UK power points in cabin.

TV will show football not the US advert show with some sporting bits inbetween. which you call football.

Depending on time of year can be lots of kids, but Princess seem to be able to handle this well.

Shows have more UK feel to them some US folks might not get all the jokes.

Apart from that the ships are both fine, getting on in life but still in good condition.

yours Shogun

We were on the Sea Princess last summer for a cruise out of Southampton. Besides what's already been mentioned, breakfast has a lot more British food, such as English bacon (which to Americans is more like ham), and other items. Because about 85 - 90% of the passengers are British, the entertainment, particularly the comedians, are geared towards British humor. Our tablemates (English) commented that they didn't think that any of the Americans in the audience got the jokes.

MUTS on the Sea Princess has wireless headsets. You'll find two in your cabin when you board and they must be left behind when you leave. :)

Even though the Sea Princess is British-registered, Princess is a U.S. corporation and the U.S.$ is the onboard currency; thus, U.S. tipping recommendations are in effect.

Princess is not a U.S. corporation...It is a brand name of a cruise line of the Carnival Corporation...According to their website Carnival is " a corporation organized and existing in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Panama"

Its been over a year since we were on the 'Sea' but on that trip the golf simulator had been removed and the room filled with pinball machines. (rear of ice cream parlour on Sun deck) To say the room was a bit grotty is a gross understatement.

With regards to English bacon. All Princess ships that I have been on serve it at breakfast in the buffet. Maybe not the first morning but, once requested, has always been made available thereafter. This was also the case on the 'Island' last month.

What did intrigue me was this new fad of ' fried egg whites' I've never seen that on before.
