letsgomets Posted April 5, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 5, 2007 Since I read a post about poker on ships several months ago, I thought I'd mention that when I was on the Noordam from 3/10-21, I spoke to the casino manager who said they were picking up an electronic poker table when it docked in NYC on 3/21 to have Texas Hold 'Em (basically, it would be like a regular poker table except that each player would have a computer screen showing his or her cards instead of a dealer dealing them). He said that if it worked out well on Noordam, HAL was going to purchase them for its other ships. I presume that those who went on the next sailing can comment on how it was. Jim played on the new PokerPro table last week. The bottom line is that if you normally play Hold'Em online, you will love this table. For those of you who only play at a traditional table, you will miss much of the ambiance and personality of the game. Here's the overview: "The PokerPro table offers a computerized Texas Hold'em game, with each player's seat in front of a touch screen that reveals hole cards and chip stacks. When it is a player's turn to act, that player is prompted to check, bet, raise or fold. Marketing statements claim that the tables average a 50 percent increase in hands per hour over traditional live tables, which pleases both players and card room management, and the table can run either a live cash game or a tournament." Jim is not computer-savvy (never plays online) and approached this table with much apprehension. It took a full 3 days before he got comfortable and started winning. Zweib Posted April 13, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 13, 2007 This is a bit of a late reply, but anyway... I discovered that table on the 3/21 cruise on the Noordam, and gave it a try. I usually only play Hold'Em online, and It provides an interesting "encounter of the 3rd kind" experience with live players around the table, without looking like an idiot fumbling with your cards. Its very easy to use, and a nice addition to the casino (actually behind the sports bar). Only regret is that it didn't seem to attract crowds, and was pretty much deserted until they started to schedule daily tournaments by leaving paper forms for people to register on. I suppose it doesn't help to have to get a special card from the casino cashier to play, and it wasn't advertised in the daily program either except one of the last days. If they could couple it with an electronic registration system, like the table maker offers, it would probably attract more fans.

kadfool Posted March 29, 2009 #5 Share Posted March 29, 2009 Anyone with personal experience with the electronic table know what games and stakes it plays/offers? Like no limit vs. limit hold 'em and any buy in limits? I'm sailing August 7th and I'm tentatively excited about the hold'em table, as my last two cruises lacked any form of live poker. You can get a PokerPro card at the cage, and put up to $500 on it. You can add money to your card, but not while a hand is in progress. There's no cash at the tables. They're preset for Hold'Em, and only the Casino Manager can change it. Except for the ship-sponsored tournaments, the games are sit'n'go. As soon as there are 4 players seated the game can start. Most blinds are 2/4 or 3/6 with a max of 3 raises. If you're playing head-to-head, you can re-raise all you want. Late at night, with only a few players left, the Manager upped the blinds to 10/20 for us. Candy
