Car parking at the dock

Does it work like this: You pull up and unload your luggage; Then while your partner drives to the garage a porter takes your luggage to the ship? Does he leave a receipt for the luggage?

Has anyone had trouble finding a parking slot in handicap?

Was your ride told "get lost" right when they dropped you off or at the garage? If it was at the garage--what did they do then? Can you possibly elaborate a little more in the chain of events? Thank you very much.

I assume you are talking about parking at the pier in NY. You drive in, unload (literally right under the bow of the ship). A porter takes your luggage inside (from where your car is stopped, it is only the width of the sidewalk to the pier building. He wheels the luggage into the bottom level, you go in the door and up the escalator. The driver drives down the road way, and up the up ramp which is basically a "U turn" but now (s)he is one level higher. Drive to the end, pay, park, take the elevator down to meet you. The parking is on the roof level, not actually "in" a garage. It is gated, it is safe, it is pricy. I think it is now $24 a day payable on arrival, in cash. I don't recall if all handicap spots were taken or not, but even if so, it is not too long of a walk from available parking spots to the elevator. If it is that critical, have the handicapped person get out with the luggage when you arrive, and you drive up to the parking level. On return, one can go get the car and come down to meet the other person with the luggage, but we have found it WAY easier to lug the luggage up to the car, and then just drive away rather then get caught in that loop of cars, cabs, busses, limos picking up arriving passengers.
