ilovetocruisetoo Posted April 9, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 9, 2007 To the person in charge of cruisecritic.com - Will you PLEASE reconsider the idea of adding these advertisements to the individual posts? They really slow the board down, are very irritating and probably give the vendor absolutely no business. I for one totally ignore them and will not purchase any of their products because you have let them ruin a good thing. Thank you.
ladylynne Posted April 9, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2007 they are annoying but I admit I found the perfect loft bed for my daughter who will be heading off to college this fall.
Globaliser Posted April 9, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 9, 2007 Will you PLEASE reconsider the idea of adding these advertisements to the individual posts?Ads? What ads? Seeing them is completely optional. It's about 20 seconds' work to block them.
C-Ked Posted April 9, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 9, 2007 If you're using Mozilla Firefox as your browser, you can block these ads by using their AdBlock extension, which can be downloaded for free from here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10 Once you have the extension, you right-click on the ad, select "AdBlock Image" or "AdBlock Frame," and enter the following web address into the filter: http://www.cruisecritic.com/vbulletin/ads_firstpost.cfm Also, a thread over on the "Need Help" forum (thread can be accessed here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=530161) had instructions on how to block these ads in IE -- 1) in the menu bar click on 'tools' 2) click 'internet options' 3) at the top click on the tab 'security' 4) click on the big red circle with the white dash labled 'restricted sites' 5) click on the 'sites' button 6) in the box labled 'add this website to the zone' cut and paste this web address http://www.cruisecritic.com/vbulletin/ads_firstpost.cfm 7) click on the 'add' button 8) click 'ok' 9) click 'ok'
Andee Posted April 9, 2007 #5 Share Posted April 9, 2007 The old saying, "there's no such thing as a free lunch" comes to mind. We get to enjoy these boards for "free"--and the only price we pay is some ads. Seems like a good deal to me!
C-Ked Posted April 9, 2007 #6 Share Posted April 9, 2007 By the way, if you really want the Cruise Critic forum admins to consider getting rid of the ads, you have to email them directly. They've said repeatedly that just posting something on one of the threads is a really ineffectual way of getting a message across to them -- who has time to read all of the thousands of postings every day? Here's what Community Manager LauraS and Host Kat said about this issue: Thanks to those of you who "understand". In fact' date=' the ads are very effective (relatively speaking), and are working well. Also, they are far less intrusive than many "fun" aspects of ALL message board forums, such as countdown clocks, banners, dancing cruise ships, etc etc. Now, before anyone states "I hate those, too"... they also are here to stay. The overwhelming majority love them. And, as you know, you can always turn OFF seeing folks' signatures. Also, following some suggestions by other member's in this thread can assist you as well.[/b'] Laura Please remember, an e-mail to management is the correct way for everyone to get their questions, comments & concerns about Cruise Critic policies, technical matters or site feedback to a more beneficial place. Posting them on the boards does no good and clogs up the system with posts that have nothing to do with cruising. Also, please remember the following information showing on top of many of the forums: Questions, comments & concerns regarding the management of our message boards should be directed to: community@cruisecritic.com. Posts regarding these issues will be removed.
