That happened to us two years ago. We took the $1500 credit and went on the most amazing excursions! I always consider the Promenade Deck my balcony when I don't have one. Great excursions and specialty dining all week vs. the balcony........do it!! Take the credit.

I think you made a great decision. Had they offered you a future cruise credit for the difference, I would have jumped at it, but who can use $1800 in OBC? I have never ever spent that much in OBC's on one cruise in my life.

I had an offer once which was "switch weeks and get your entire amount of money back in shipboard credit". I mentioned that I could not spend that much on a ship and they said what I didn't spend, they would provide me with a check or cash on the last day.

So you don't have to worry about spending all the money.

I have to say as much as I am looking forward to having the balcony, I probably would have taken the credit. With alternate dining, excursions, tips, the thermal suite for a week, I start in debt before we sail. But as may have said you have to do what is best for you. Enjoy your vacation.:)

The cruiseline will start with a lowball offer and if they can't find a taker, they'll sweeten the deal more and more until someone bites. We were offered a full refund with an upgrade to a balcony from an inside the day before our first cruise with Princess if we postponed for a few weeks. We didn't take the offer.

maybe someone can shed some light on this for me...is it really possible that all of the mini-suites and suites are booked? b/c why would princess offer a lower cabin w/all of that OBC?? wouldnt they just rather move them to a mini or a full suite?? wouldnt that be cheaper for princess AND the cruiser would be happy w/ an upgrade?? i mean, it's 2 days away now, if the suites not booked and paid or, it's 99% not going to be before the cruise....so why not move the ppl there??

it is possible on our cruise all minis and suites are book.....but you can get and oceanview or an inside

Are you kidding?? We could use $1800 in a heartbeat. We have $1000 of shore excursions already booked (golf the better portion of it) and the other $800 would easily be used on drinks and the casino. We will be lucky to have our account total less than $2500.

OK so what am I missing here? Why on earth would Princess or any other cruise line offer to give you back your entire amount that you spent if you moved to another week, plus give you an upgrade just so you would give up your present accommodation? This means that they would be able to give your present cabin to someone else yes but they would be out not once but twice the amount because a) they moved you and b) they refunded you and don't forget any upgrades. Why not just disappoint the person that's going to get your original cabin?

I'm not seeing the logic here at all.

Wow. With all our cruises, I think the most we've ever had on our shipboard account was maybe $700.

We're not drinkers - can you guess, LOL?:D

It' obvious in these cases they have overbooked the ship...It's more than a "disappoint" to tell someone they can't sail because they don't have a cabin for them...It's to the cruiselines advantage to overbook because of possible cancellations...Sometimes they figure it wrong and they are willing to overpay to to ensure everyone is happy.

It is $900 per cabin which is $450 per person.

Sometimes the difference between outside and balcony cabins is $450 per person (think about it - $500 pp for outside and $950 for balcony - not unreasable figures). IMO - they paid more for a balcony because they wanted a balcony. The offer really isn't significant enough for me to consider.
