Elcruzer Posted April 15, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 15, 2007 Anyone have any experience with the river rafting in Denali. Is the ride very rough? Do they give you life preservers and do you get very wet? Is there river rafting somewhere else that you think is better than in Denali?
Yukon Posted April 15, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 15, 2007 There are many levels of roughness at Denali, from quite gentle on the upper river to moderate tracks through the Nenana Gorge, and trips that pick out the roughest section of the Gorge (those are the ones I go on quite regularly). All of the operators provide full safety and waterproof gear - the only thing that may well get wet is your socks. Denali offers some of the best rafting in the State. MM27 Posted April 15, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 15, 2007 I've done it. They give you a drysuit (kind of like a wetsuit, but not skintight like wetsuit) and booties, hat and gloves. There was nothing exposed on us except our faces.
TeeBuccs Posted April 15, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 15, 2007 Had a great time! Tour company helps you get in and out of the dry suit and it works well. However, it is desined to keep you dry - not warm so be sure to layer up underneath. Also it would be best to bring waterproof (neoprene or something) gloves as your hands do get wet and that is glacier water! The gloves they let us borrow were cotton and one wave was all it took to be uncomfortable with cold, wet gloves. It is a blast and we loved "train wreck" the best. Enjoy!
