Dana Deem Posted April 16, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 16, 2007 Did You Hear Of Anyone Bringing Beer On From Port Everglades. This Will Be Our 31st Cruise, But First With Costa. Leaving Sunday With 6 Newbie Cruisers. Thanks
born_cruisers Posted April 17, 2007 #5 Share Posted April 17, 2007 My dh and I just got off the Magica and had a great time! We really enjoyed Costa. We were nervous about it because we had always gone on Carnival, but we were pleased. Our room was the highest category balcony but it was treated like a suite. Champagne, h'ordeurves, and fruit greeted us on embarkation day. We received the menu daily in our room a few hours before dinner. We also got invited to a VIP cocktail party for suite guests. My husband had the X1 package and had no problems using it. He ordered two beers at a time though so he wouldn't have to wait for a refill. Food was good. I'm pretty picky and I didn't have a problem finding food to eat from the menu. The beef entrees were all very good. The chilled pumpkin soup was excellent and (as always) the Grand Marnier Souffle. The toga party was fun. Overall, we had a great time!:D
Dana Deem Posted April 17, 2007 #6 Share Posted April 17, 2007 Glad to hear you had a great time. We have purchased the wine pkgs. The prices are reasonable. Do you think it will be possible to take on my Coors Light when we board in Port Ever? Let me know as we are leaving home Thurs. eve--no email after that!! thanks so very much
glb911 Posted April 17, 2007 #7 Share Posted April 17, 2007 Pack it in your bags. I don't think they scan the bags and we talked with several people that packed it in their bags and got it on board. They scan the carry ons. Good luck and hope you enjoy. We didn't know what to expect, so we went with an open mind. The over all experience was great. Some complaints about food and entertainment, but oh well. The beds were hard as rocks though. One suggestion take a blow up mattress. We didn't have robes in our room so we asked the steward for two and she brought them. Toga night was a blast!!!
bradbarb Posted April 22, 2007 #8 Share Posted April 22, 2007 Did they have shampoo and conditioner? Thanks
Caesar Posted April 23, 2007 #9 Share Posted April 23, 2007 1- No shampoo or conditioner. 2- Food generally was very good, especially the buffet, but the last night dinner was a complete disaster. From talking to the waiter, this happens every cruise on the last night. They have reported it, but Costa will do nothing to improve. 3- The Buffet Magnifique at midnight was terrible - very little choice, and it is served in the galley. 4- We were in a Cat 10 balcony. We asked for robes - no way unless you were in a suite. We found our cabin steward to do his job and absolutely no more. The service on the last day was lacking - i.e. no ice etc. 5- Did not like casino, due slots too high - need more penny or nickel machines - too many 10 cent machines, which were always available. And too many dollar machines as well. On one tender, it took us 2 hours to get back on the ship due high current. Tried four times and finally made it. This is not Costa's fault but not a fun thing to go through. Any questions, and I will be pleased to respond.
DizneyChick Posted April 24, 2007 #10 Share Posted April 24, 2007 Caesar I was on the cruise with you. In fact I think we were on the same tender. It took forever and I was, frankly, scared for my life. One of the officers had to jump from the ship onto the tender and crawl in through the front window to get it to dock without crashing against the ship. I really thought the little boat we were in was going to crack open with the way it was smashing against the Magica. Other than that... We had a pretty good time. born_cruisers Posted April 24, 2007 #11 Share Posted April 24, 2007 My dh and I were on the first tender boat. The lifeboat was crashing so hard into the side of the ship that the lifeboat cracked. On the way back, we were on a double decker tender and we unloaded from the top deck. The put this metal bridge out so that we could run across it. We literally had to run across it. The force of the waves on the tender boat kept pushing the metal bridge up and down. I was a bit scared. The crew told us that they had never seen the water that rough. We took a video of people trying to get on the ship from the tender boat. Crazy.
