"....//....and they are better than Tortuga".

Thanks, Mr. Pholter!

You're correct, they are better because they are made with the best rum in the world: Mt. Gay.

Cheers! ;) :D

Barbados Mt. Gay Rum = engine wash;). Dont take me serious just some friendly island banter. It is great rum and I will be drinking it for kadooment this year:p

While we're on the subject of spirits......

I have to tell you, Mr. goneclear, that CARIB beer that is brewed on Trinidad is perhaps the best beer in the Caribbean, if not the world.

That's the drink of choice during carnival when we're lucky enough to have time to get down there for it.

BEST! -b-

  • 3 weeks later...

A Bajan coworker asked me for sugarcakes and Mt. Gay rum. She hasn't been home in 30 years...

I bought some excellent sugarcakes (coconut, ginger and brown sugar I think) banana chutney, dolls and handicrafts at the Women's Self Help Handicrafts store on Broad Street, in Bridgetown. The staff was nice, the prices reasonable, and nobody bugged you about buying things. My understanding is that it is designed to encourage women economically by providing support to small women run businesses.

Thats good to know about the womens self-help. I think I went in there many many years ago, but I'll have to revisit one of these days..

and the sugarcakes are great aren't they.. although I'm surprised your co-worker can't make them herself (very easy once you know how to) and i'm sure you can get all the ingrediants locally where you are. But of course they always taste better made in Barbados..
