intocruising Posted April 17, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 17, 2007 Don't remember what site I was and I read no ATMs and no cash advances on creadit cards. How true?
CFIGuy Posted April 17, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 17, 2007 Even if that is true, you can get cash at the casino (albeit with a 3% surcharge) for gambling with, and just don't gamble with it. On RCCL, where there is no casino cash fee, this was much cheaper than the $8 on board ATM fee.
intocruising Posted April 17, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted April 17, 2007 Sorry, does that mean I can charge casino play money thru my onboard account (using credit card) with 3% fee? Thanks for clarifying. I remember Celebrity doesn't have any fees.
CFIGuy Posted April 17, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 17, 2007 Princess is the same as other cruise lines (give shipboard card to casino cage, and get $$$), but they do charge a 3% transaction fee to your account. Apparently it is a fairly new thing, but for taking out smaller amounts, it is still cheaper than an ATM if one is available.

jlp20 Posted April 18, 2007 #6 Share Posted April 18, 2007 I have only tried to use the ship’s ATM during two cruises. Can’t tell you how much they charge, since both times the machines were either broken or empty. I think it was the third day of a seven dayer I went looking for the cash. Never saw the machine up and running later in the cruise. Gee, ATM’s charge a straight fee per transaction. The casino charges a percentage. Which one is more profitable to the cruiseline? I think I know why the ATM was never working.
