Breezybreeze Posted April 20, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 20, 2007 DH and I are going on our 1st cruise in June. He was wondering if they give tours of the ship. Like the engine room (men and engines:rolleyes: ) or any place else. Thanks
Cotton Posted April 20, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 20, 2007 I doubt they've ever given engine room tours, but since 9/11, there are no more bridge tours. The only tour they offer these days is a galley tour, and it's not really through the kitchen, but in prep areas.
Rare Terre Posted April 20, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 20, 2007 I'm not sure if they used to give tours of the engine rooms or not, but like Cotton says, certainly not since 9/11. On one of the other boards a couple of years ago (I think it was Princess), I read that you could write a letter to the captain for a bridge tour. You give it to the Purser's Desk when you board and you may or may not be invited for that. Worth a try, but don't even ask for an engine room tour. The person who wrote that had gotten a tour. Breezybreeze Posted April 20, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted April 20, 2007 Thanks for your posts. I didn't think that they would let him. Seems like that would be a risk factor. Just thought I would ask anyway.
Knights on the Beach Posted April 20, 2007 #5 Share Posted April 20, 2007 Sometimes they also do a tour of public areas (i.e., lounges, etc.). I've seen it noted in the Capers before, but never felt the need to take that tour. ;) We just walk around and explore the ship on our own. llanning Posted April 21, 2007 #6 Share Posted April 21, 2007 Not quite true. My husband got an engine tour and we were both on the bridge as we pulled out of Grand Cayman. You just have to have given birth to the right people.
vacruizer Posted April 21, 2007 #7 Share Posted April 21, 2007 There was also a "backstage' theater tour on the Miracle along with the galley tour. I spent years in food service, DH spent years doing theater so we skipped those. Seen one industrial kitchen, seen 'em all.:p
