Help!San Diego surfing lesson-watcher price?

Recommended Posts

:( Hi,We're going on the Monarch on May 14th.I'd really like to try the surfing lesson(Don't ask me why at my age??).You only live once and I like to take experience different things.I hate leaving my husband out of it though :( It's just not for him.I thought I saw at one point a 'watcher price'?Can anyone out there help me?It wouldn't be a total loss,my parents are going on the cruise with us,and he could do something with them. But I'd like it to be something exciting if he's not with me to 'photoshoot' my lesson or just to enjoy the beach.Does anyone know if they take professional pictures?Thank you for your help.

The water will still be cold in May...probably in the 50s. Will you have a wetsuit of your own, or will they provide one? If the last few years prove out, it is also likely to be cool and cloudy at the beach in May. What company are you using? Where are the lessons? Where are you staying? If your family wants to watch, it would probably be cheaper to just cab to the location and then they can watch and take some humiliating photos!!!

Where are we staying? Is that a trick question? We'll be on the Monarch. These boards have really changed. The ports of call usually had a wealth of information, this one just seems to have arrival/departure info. We're beyond that.I don't mean to be so negative.I appreciate your response. This is an excursion from RCCL.They usually don't give you much info, just a brief description. We will be fitted with wetsuits and booties. But if the water is that cold,I might have to reconsider unfortunately.I'll pull some teeth trying to get more info.I really wanted to try this.

You may also want to think about taking a private lesson, they have them all up and down the beaches, your family would be able to go and watch for free.

They include wetsuit, board and a free 1 hour board rental after the lesson.

Here is one at mission beach.

Sorry you are so offended by my answer and so judgemental about the quality of information on this forum. I thought you were embarking or disembarking in San Diego. Sorry I tried to offer some advice from a local.

Mission Beach is about 5 miles from the port. You can take a cab for about $15-20. If you want to take the ship's excursion, then try to find out from them where the lessons are and have your family meet you there via cab. Mission Beach is a LONG beach though, so try to find a street location that is specific.

Taking a private lesson will vary according to how long you are in port. Here are some possible options. Not all of these use Mission Beach, since depending on the day, the surf may be better elsewhere:

Splinter,I did/do appreciate your response,just wasn't one I had hoped for.I haven't been on this website since our 2002 cruise,it's changed,so your first response wasn't one I had hoped for.And I thought I gave enough information,but I didn't.

Thank you for the information,Caribbean!:)
