shay1 Posted August 8, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 8, 2004 We will be on the Sun Princess and stopping at St. Vincent. We will only be in port from 1:00pm to 6:00pm. Does anyone have any recommendations for great dive sites, snorkeling? Would we be better off taking a tour? If so any recommendations? We are free divers and always take our own equipment, so even if you have any beach dive sites to recommend that would be great.

Check out this map: Some of the best dives and snorkeling on the island are between Kingstown and Layou, about a 15-minute taxi ride from the ship. Most of the reefs in this area are within 60’ of shore. The three that I’m familiar with are: Anchor Reef; The Forest and New Guinea Reef. You’ll find these just below Layou Bay in the Buccament Bay area. Exquisite coral, squid, seahorses and octopus are numerous. Being that they’re so close to the ship, you’ll have plenty of time to explore. Enjoy SVG, It’s one of our favorite spots in the Caribbean. shay1 Posted August 8, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted August 8, 2004 Barbados, Thank you for all your information. This will be a new Island for us to visit and we are looking forward to it. Is there any problems with just going off the beach? Are they open beaches or Resorts that you have to go through to get to the beach? The Buccament Bay area is this a beach site or Resort site? Want to be able to give clear directions to taxi driver.

Want to be able to give clear directions to taxi driver. -------------------------------------- As it’s been two years since we’ve done the beach shore dives at New Guineau and Anchor, I contacted my dive buddy regarding current conditions there. He advised that St. Vincent has tightened-up on all the shore diving because of the coral damage. As far as he knows, it isn’t outlawed, but is discouraged. Under the circumstances, I think that you should contact Bill Tewes at Dive St. Vincent. Find his e-mail here: bill2s@DiveStVincent.com They have a number of boat dives/snorkeling that are very inexpensive (US$15 for the snorkeling, as I remember). That way you won’t take the chance of a taxi up there only to find out that there is no beach diving anymore. If Bill can’t help, I’ll give you a couple of other contacts. Sorry, but it’s better to find out now that when the clock is ticking on the island. Please let me know what you found out.
