Independent wandering in Florence

Recommended Posts

Jade, Thanks for the very informative post. If you can stop at the Baptistery doors it will give you an idea about how the doors were there for the enjoyment of everyone and put it all into context. I actually was in Florence 5 times before I was able to enter the Baptistery. It is quite beautiful.

Stop, take the time, inhale and get the feeling of Florence.

Fran

Fran, I know I have been to Florence before. Since it was in 1984 I would not have seen the new doors. But, I just don'r recall the old ones or if they were even thee, damaged or not..

Jade,

The Baptistery is a separate octagonal building just across from the front doors of the Duomo. The original doors had severe water damage from the flood of 1966. The waterlines were quite apparent.
