What activities are available on 1 night cruises to nowhere?

Just booked a NYC cruise to nowhere on the Dawn on 5/5/2007... (had to satisfy the cruise bug, it's been almost 5 months... getting the itch again :) )

Being a 10 time veteran of NCL, what activities will or will not be available on this one night shindig?

Would we be overdressed in bringing formal wear or should we just stay casual?

Any tips from past cruise-to-nowhere vets would be appreciated :)

We did one a couple of years ago and it was a lot of fun. The people on the one nighters are generally there to party. Not as many children on board. Anything you would normally see or expect on a regular cruise will be available on the overnight. Gift shop, spa, casino, bingo, shows, pool - all open. All restaurants - including specialty are also open. Can be a bit difficult to book a specialty if you're not in a suite or higher - but certainly not impossible.

I would dress casual. But if you want to dress up by all means do. Most people will be more casual however.

You'll have a ball!!!

Activities + Drinking, Drinking, Drinking and when you are tired of that there will be more Drinking and Drinking.

I was on the one day cruise last year on the Dawn - it was nice but too short - by the time u got settled, explore the ship, have fun, u were back in ny -- we went last may and the only down fault was it was like 120 degrees in the casino - i don't know why but it was and we still had a blast - this year we are trying the 2 day cruise in october on the dawn - at least we have one day inbetween --

Do you think there will be anything special going on for Cinco de mayo? I'm not sure what to expect.

Most cruise lines dont have the ability to be flexible to celebrate holidays like Cinco de Mayo on a cruise ship. They are not going to store the decorations and specialty items needed to make it fun, for a one day party, and then pack it all up for next year? not likely. Maybe they can offer margharitas at a special price and play some mexican theme music, but i wouldnt expect much more.......

To the crew, each day is like the day before, and the next day.

Just my opinion....

Is there anything I should know about drink prices? For example of RCL, the drink is cheapest in a glass you return. More in a plastic cup you can keep and even more in a fancy glass you can keep! It is the same on NCL?

That's the pattern. You can order the drink of the day (do they even have that on a one night cruise? ) in a regular glass and save about half.

Thanks late cruiser! How much do the drinks run? $6 ish?

Depends on the drink... usuall the drink of the day deal in a souvenir glass could be in the 7.95 - 8.95 range, but in a normal glass about 5.95.

Other drinks run the gamut from $2.50 on up...
