Booking-1 1/2 yrs in advance, hardly any cabins left?

Recommended Posts

Hi Mskatee,

If you have used a TA in the past and are happy doing so in the future then you should do so. I used TA's in the past and while they were fine, I could never deal directly with the cruise line. I always had to call the TA and then the TA would call the cruise line and then get back to me. Since the TA's can no longer give big discounts there does not seem to be enough incentive to use them. I prefer to have total control of my reservation and be able to make changes when I want to. I can call RCCL at any point to make changes with my cabin or price. I can send coupons directly to the cruise line, no go between.

I also believe that the cruise line has access to cabins many individual TA's or agency's don't have access to. Plus, the TA is making money from somewhere and it may be to push certain cabins over others, etc. Who knows. I just think if you are knowledgeable enough about cruising and booking air, etc. there really is no reason to use a TA. Obviously, if you are new to cruising or just don't want to bother with it ,then a TA would be the way to go.

Hi All,

Just went to book a Panama Canal cruise with Jewel of the Sea. From Travelocity, there were hardly any cabins left on decks 7, 9 , balconies and window cabins. Do people really book even further ahead than I thought?

I thought a year in advance was enough. The lower decks I am not interested in. What gives?

thanks

mskatee

Of course some people book 1 to 1.5 yrs in advance, but MOST don't. On a ship holding 2600 passengers, you won't have to worry about getting a good cabin choice that early (unless the "BEARS" or some large group has booked the ship).

Here is the best way to get the perfect cabin when booking so early:

Call 1-800-859-7225 - then extention 30715 -(this is RCI Cruise Specialists) - Talk to Peter. Tell him "Mr. Darrell Sent You. He will take EXCELLENT CARE of you. I promise

btwn two sleeping decks, mid ship, no elevators, no lifeboats,

thanks mskatee

If you are wanting the best balcony room, look at the deck plans -especially the HUMP cabins on the PORT side of deck 8 or 9.

Whats a 'hump' cabin?

See the balconies and the perfect location to all the ship?? Those are the best. # 9078, 9092, for examples. Don't worry about the elevators - you aren't close, and you won't hear a thing.

Hope This Helps.

When I was on the Jewel in November I wanted to book an aft on NOS for Dec 07 and the loyalty amb told me it looked like TAs were holding cabins went ahead and booked a balcony on NOS a couple of weeks later I was checking and lo and behold I saw two afts on my sailing called and had my cabin changed. The advice you are getting from the other posters is correct you need to call and need to check often.

Travelocity does not have access to all of the ships cabin inventory...wholesalers and 3rd party booking agencies usually recieve an allotment of cabins. They may have either not had many cabins to begin with or have sold most of the ones they did have
