I don't think you can wear water shoes. You're in 12 foot water wearing a flotaion device, so your feet won't touch the bottom. If you do the swim, when the dolphins do the foot push, I don't think they allow you to have shoes on. You can wear the water shoes on the pier and the platform, but probably not into the water.

In Nassau, the dolphin place had free lockers and a shower area to change your clothes.

We did the swim, which isn’t offered through the ship excursions. I booked directly with the Dolphin Encounters, through it’s website, a few months before going. The swim books up fast, so you can’t wait for the last minute on booking this excursion. This is a great experience and it shouldn't be missed. If it’s not offered through the cruise ship, you will need to get to Paradise Island on your own.

We did the 8:30 a.m. trip. We left the ship at 7:30 a.m., got a taxi, at $5 per person. It was a fifteen minute ride to get to the Paradise Island Ferry Terminal. We checked in at 8:00 a.m. There’s snack bar at the terminal to get something to eat or drink. Got on a two level boat and enjoyed a 20 minute ride to Blue Lagoon. It was neat to see all the big yachts and sail boats in the harbor, plus the homes along the way.

The trainers and dolphins are very entertaining and worth the trip.

When you first get there, you sit though a 10 minute orientation on dolphins, protecting the environment and what you could expect that day. There were small lockers available to store your belongings. They also had showers and a changing area.

Everyone wears a personal flotation device, ( They also have wetsuit's at no additional charge). You climb down a four step ladder to get onto a platform and eventually the whole group of 10, gets into the 12 foot deep water. You get a chance to hug, kiss, dance, feed and then do a foot push, where two dolphins push you across the enclosure.

Observers were able to get close enough to get pictures.

We bought the DVD ($58) and photo’s ($38) to show everyone back home.

After the dolphin swim, change out of your wet clothes, do the gift shop, and it was time to go. The boat left Blue Lagoon at 11:15 a.m. and was back at the terminal around 11:40 a.m. A great place to get lunch is Anthony’s Grill, a couple of blocks from the terminal. The grilled grouper sandwich was great! We got a taxi back to the cruise ship/straw market area, and was able to do some shopping, before getting on the boat at 2:30 p.m.

Blue Lagoon still has picnic tables and volley ball nets up, but I don’t think the rest of the island is being used, and you won’t have time to enjoy the island, for other than doing the dolphin activities.
