HAWAII in OCTOBER

Recommended Posts

Was in Hawaii mid-Oct 2002 for my honeymoon. The temperature was 80s the entire time we were there. We visited Kauai and Maui. Oct is their rainy season, but we only had one very rainy day. Another downfall for the rainy season was while in Kauai the waters were rough and we were unable to do a boat/snorkel tour. Overall, the weather was wonderful.

We did a Hawaii cruise in 2001 in October from Vancouver the weather was wonderful. Cool and pleasant in Vancouver, Warmed up daily on the cruise, and by the time we got to Hawaii the temps were in the 80s. Water temps were around 78, cool but tolerable. The only negative is if you are wanting to watch the whales they are not in Hawaii yet in October. We did see lots of dolphins though. We had a wonderful trip and the weather was great.

Just to clarify, October is the very beginning of the "rainy season." November through March is typically the rainiest time. In various parts of Hawaii it rains all year; in other parts it doesn't rain much at all. This is a tropical climate. You are likely to have some rain no matter when you go. I like to tell first-time visitors that most of Hawaii is green for a reason.

In any case, the weather doesn't change that much throughout the year. For the islands, a good umbrella and/or light rain slicker is the most you will need (unless you are going to Haleakula or another higher elevation--then pants and a jacket are sometimes a good idea). (The one time we went to Haleakula, it was so warm I couldn't wait to strip down from the warm jacket, sweater, and jeans I was wearing. Every other trip, our jackets have never even made it out of the suitcases. Last trip we took an extra umbrella and skipped the jackets entirely. :) )

October is usually slightly "cooler" than summer and can be a bit wetter (at least in our experience). On the real plus side, the water is usually warmest in October. IMO, there is not a bad time to go to Hawaii. You should love it.

Hi there. The cruises to/from Hawaii and Vancouver only run once a year as they are repositiong cruises for the Alaska runs. They come from Hawaii to Vancouver in around May and go from Vancouver to Hawaii around the end of September or begining of October. We are doing one next month! Enjoy!

Hello Kindacrazytwo,

Please let us know how you enjoyed your cruise. We are still looking at the end of September or the beginning of October for this cruise.

If you will be on the Serenade or Radiance, you will love either ship. We sailed both - the Serenade to Alaska this past July and the Radiance in February 2002.

Have a wonderful cruise!
