blwms Posted May 4, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 4, 2007 What a pleasant surprise! It has been many years since sailing "smaller" ships and some people have posted how disappointed they were after the Mega liners....well, what a difference a sail makes! We sailed the Glory when it was only 6 months old and loved it, but the small and "old" Holiday we found to be just as clean, just as fresh , much better food, much better service, much better entertainment. Working on a full review, but as you can tell it will be a glowing one! Just the greatest of our 11 cruises..hands down! More to come. P.S.: Mobile is the best! smarks Posted May 4, 2007 #6 Share Posted May 4, 2007 Hi pkgosnell, I will be in Mobile on 6/3. Leaving out on Holiday 6/4. Where is a good hotel close to the port to stay? Would love to watch the ships come in. Thanks
Wennfred Posted May 4, 2007 #7 Share Posted May 4, 2007 Live in Mobile and have not heard about the jumper. Post a link to the story if you have it. Info here: I just returned from my cruise on the Holiday. We sailed out on April 28th and returned today from our five day cruise. At our first port of call about 11 am in the morning a young man (18 - 23) jumped from the 10th deck into the water and swam from the rear of the ship to the front of the ship before being picked up by the Mexican police. this young man was then arrested in mexico realeased then put in the brig on the ship. Once in Cozumel he was then taken off the ship and made to return home where he would be arrested again once landing in Mobile, Alabama. The officers on the ship said this was the second or third time this same person had done this from the Holiday and the Captain banned him from any ship he is Captain on and would hoped that Carnival would ban him from all Carnival ships. It is a shame that young people do things like this. I'm glad it was while we were in port and not while at sea. According to other passnegers that were around when he jumped he was not drunk but had made a bet with someone in his group. People seen him jump, video taped the Mexican police picking him up and then spoke with officers about the incident. I was not there and this is what was told to me. However, I did see the video and see the man being brought back to the pier from the water in a Police boat. The pier was also then patrolled by extra security. Over all, it was a great cruise. Wonderful staff as always. The shows were great and the casino took some of my money. The Holiday may be an older ship but she is great, clean and in wonderful shape. PINEVIEW01 Posted May 4, 2007 #9 Share Posted May 4, 2007 I loved the Holiday on my first cruise. Than it was a "big" ship and a seven day cruise. I went out NO on her for a five day cruise, even thou a small ship by than, she was still great. I just love her.
eLav8 Posted May 4, 2007 #10 Share Posted May 4, 2007 Thanks for the short, but pleasant review! I sail her in 8 days! It's my 2nd cruise and 2nd time on the Holiday...I cruised for my birthday and took my mom for mother's day the same week last year and had to do it again this year! Would love to watch the ships come in. Thanks Try the Riverview Plaza (best view of the harbor) 251 438-4000 Radisson Admiral Semmes (good view if you get the right room) 251 432-8000 Lafayette Plaza (also very good views) 251 432-0879 Picture taken from the Holiday and the Riverview is the tall building in the center of the picture. csf97 Posted May 4, 2007 #15 Share Posted May 4, 2007 I've been reading the other thread about the Red, White, & Blue teams on some of the Carnival ships and was wondering if they do this on the Holiday?
mrs. alabama_cruisin Posted May 4, 2007 #16 Share Posted May 4, 2007 Happy to hear some more positive things about the Holiday!! We are sailing three weeks from tomorrow! We also cruised the Glory and loved it as well. Heck, I am just happy to be going on another cruise!!! :D
bamaphotopro Posted May 4, 2007 #17 Share Posted May 4, 2007 I've been reading the other thread about the Red, White, & Blue teams on some of the Carnival ships and was wondering if they do this on the Holiday? Maybe it's because she is smaller, but we had just the Red & Blue teams. I'm not much of a cheerleader, so I wasn't into the whole team thing. But if you like to hoot & holler, you'll love it. :) - Bama

But if you like to hoot & holler, you'll love it. :) - Bama Hi Bama (I'm a Bama Girl, myself!) ;) Actually, I was hoping they wouldn't...especially if they really do all the hollering they're talking about on the other thread in the Dining Room. Seems like that would really interrupt your meal and your ability to talk to your tablemates! Oh well, I'm sure it will be okay, but if I could choose, I'd have the Dining Room be a holler-free zone!
