Getting a fake tattoo on the ship.

I was thinking about getting a fake airbrushed tattoo on my foot during my cruise coming up, just for fun. Not henna, but a colored one.

Anyone have any pics of their airbrushed tat, or can anyone offer what designs they do?

Should I do this on board or is there somewhere in Coz, Georgetown, or MoBay that has a better price/quality.

I'm not looking for anything that will last weeks, just maybe a few days or a week.

I asked this in my port of calls boards and got no responses. And used the search feature, but to no avail.

Thank you :)

On a cruise a few years ago, our daughters(teenagers at the time) wanted Henna tattos, but found a street vendor in Cozumel that painted designs on your skin, sort of like face painting. They had some kind of design put on their ankles, but it only lasted a day or so. They opted for a Henna tattoo(lasts MUCH longer) on their next cruise. They lasted for a couple of weeks.

Beware of black henna tattoos - real henna is NOT black. There have been several cases of "black henna" actually burning the skin and leaving permanant marks. Real henna is a thick greenish paste that is squeezed onto the skin with what looks like a pastry bag - not a thin black liquid painted on with a brush. The airbrush stuff they do on the ship is safe and temporary - the more you are in the water the faster it will fade.

We got an airbrushed colour tattoo on the Conquest last month (April). The lady's stand was on Deck 9 near the pool, and it took 15 minutes. By gently looking after it, the tattoo lasted 2 weeks.

Can't remember the cost (it went onto the S&S card account). There were 3 sizes, and lots of designs (you can leaf through the designs). The one we chose was of a winged angel - click on the thumbnail.

Did it on board - would not have considered doing it on shore, as we are conservative/cautious.

I just got back Sunday from a Liberty cruise. I got a cute little colored Seahorse on my shoulder. It was nice while it lasted. Only about 4 days. One thing the gal told me that did it, was to not get sunscreen on it at all. I was very careful with it, but it still faded quickly.

DW, who loves all things dolphin (the mammal, not the football team) got an airbrushed tattoo aboard the Glory on our last cruise. It lasted about 4 days or so.

One way to make it "last" a little longer is to get a good tan while the tattoo is in place. DW did this and even after the tattoo faded and peeled, the silhouette could be seen where the rest of her should had tanned. I think that actually looked better than the tattoo itself :)

I know you weren't asking about henna, but peersurgurl's post bears repeating, for those who might be thinking about getting henna!!! The "black henna" usually has hair dye in it to make it black, and it can be very dangerous!!! Make sure you only get natural henna done. It's much prettier than black, anyway!

I was on the Elation in 2004 and they had the airbrush tatoos. I saw quite a few people with them and I believe they'll last several day, especially if you're careful with it.

p.s. Hi AmberMarie! I see you're a fellow Pea.

I got one on my "girls only" crusie a couple years ago. it was a shamrock. It was kind of big for my taste. I did it as a joke to my hubby. Called him from the ship, told him that I had too much to drink and look what happened. It lasted two weeks.

They do the temp tattoos by the pool... I've never had one last for more than a couple of days... the selection isn't the greatest either... but it always seems like a good idea after drinking all day :p

They are fun and cute - on my Valor cruise it was raining on the last day so a few of us were looking for stuff to do and ended up getting the fake tatoos - station as moved inside on the promenade deck!

Got a great looking 'sunburst' on my ankle which lasted a couple of weeks with 'special' care. Have a pic somewhere of our '3 ankles' all tattooed - pretty funny.

...and like johnaricka I did not tell dh (he was at home) and when he noticed it - told him I got drunk, woke up and look what happened - too funny! (maybe should have gotten some guy's name tattoed on my ankle - ha ha ha)

My 10yo DD got one on our cruise in March, and it lasted a few days. (I did make her wait until after formal night!) The pool water was too cold for us, so I'm not sure if that would have had an impact or not.

I think that the cost varied with the size/complexity of the design, and I think hers was around $14.

Have fun! :)

They will re-do a tattoo if it is messed up within a day or two. I tried a few on Sensation a year ago, see pics... but sunscreen and a backpack (or, later, the lumbar support in my SUV) rubbing on it led to an early demise, no more than 2 days total... I guess it depends on where you put the tattoo. They are just sprayed on and totally temporary.

Still, if you're considering a permanent one, many tattoo specialists recommend trying the design in a temporary version first.

Loved it! all of us girls had them done for our fling cruise (bachelorette party)...

I want to get one on the top of my foot! A shamrock or horseshoe.. I wonder if they have those designs, or just "tropical" designs.
