Dining room attire

Here is what it says from the Carnival website.

Depending on the length of the cruise, either formal dress or casual resort wear is required in the Dining Room. The dress requirement for children is the same. For those not wanting to dress up, the Lido restaurants are open nightly (with the exception of the last evening of the cruise), and have a casual dress code. Formal Wear: tuxedo (optional); suit and tie; sport coat, tie and slacks; evening gown; cocktail dress; pantsuit Casual Resort Wear: sport shirts and slacks; dresses; skirts; pantsuit NOTE: Shorts, t-shirts and bathing attire are not permitted in the Dining Room during dinner.

A lot of people wear jeans. Personally I wouldn't but that is just my opinion, and there are heated debates about it on here. I look at it as going into a nice land based restaurant where I wouldn't wear jeans but like I said, others do.

Enjoy your cruise. :)

Good reply, Sandi. Although, I haven't seen 'many' wearing jeans to the dining room in the evenings....a few maybe, but then I don't notice every diner.:D I think most seem to know that jeans are definitely not appropriate for a formal dining room setting.

I don't think here we go again. A legitimate question was asked and answered.

About Tom's reply...not really funny Tom. No need to get newbies confused. Kimmysmom - Shorts and tees only allowed in the dining room for b'fast and lunch.

Are jeans jeans? If I have black capris with studding and sewn inlays,is that same as blue jean?

This is our first cruise, so I have never gone thru this before. You have to dress formal for your evening meal, if eating in the main dining room? But, it is ok to wear shorts & tshirts for b'fast & lunch?

NO, you do not have to dress formal in the dining room everynight, just on the Formal nights, a 7 night cruise has 2, the other evenings is smart casual, which is explained in Carnival dress code that Sandi145 sent you in the second post.

Yes, shorts & T's can be worn in the dining room during breakfast & lunch.

If you do not want to eat in the dining room, you can eat at the Lido buffet, there is no dress code, it is very casual.

Have a great 1st cruise:)

You only have to dress formal on the nights that are designated formal. If it is a 7 night cruise that would be 2 nights. The other nights is country club casual. For the gentlemen slacks and golf shirt are fine. For the ladies...well, most ladies like to dress up a bit anyways.....and they generally know what that means.;)

Have a great first cruise...............:D

It is not the same as blue jeans because they are black.

If you were wearing blue capris, then they wouuld be the same.

The studding and sewn inlays make them fency.

No you don't have to dress formal!!

The suggested attire is formal, country club casual as you put it is fine for all 7 nights. The amount of people dressing formal seems to be less now. I will start a poll to actually see.

We also are going on our first cruise, Alaska, in less then three weeks. I am really looking forward to actually seeing what ever body else is actually wearing on formal and non-formal nights. The opinions on this subject are so different that it will be interesting to see just how people do dress. Normally when we go on vacation I don't pay much attention to what anyone is wearing but with this hot debate over fashion I will be paying attention to everyone's clothes.

And that's what I would suggest you do. Bring your clothes..... jeans or otherwise. Check it out first hand and you will find the true answer:)

I'm sure glad we went on a few cruises before I found this board....Finding out first had is the best advice.

Happy sailing!

Stevee's obviously anti-dress up. But at the time of this posting, HIS POLL show just under 84 percent dress formal on formal nites.

Case Closed.

On other nites, slacks and a polo are OK. Jeans are NOT FORBIDDEN but few can honestly call them "slacks."

See post #17. My comment was in ref. to that.

A thread morphing into something different from its beginning? UNHEARD OF!

Also those who are anti-something, dress up, tipping, etc. usually promote their agenda with no regard for or the intentional disregard for logic and facts. Why? I don't know or care, just know that's the way it is.

You aren't going to see all the "tropical" clothing you see on a caribbean cruise.

You'll see jeans and dockers on caz nites.

formal is the same as any other ship, suits, dressy dresses etc.
