Expired Identification

Recommended Posts

My daughter who is 17 years old drivers permit expired on 4/2/07. She has not received her driver's license yet(another story). Will Carnival accept her permit as identification or can she use her high school id? What forms of id can be used?

We are travelling on 6/4/07.

I'm not sure what to tell you about the expired part.......but........let me caution you to make sure everyone especially the airport can clearly see everyone in your groups picture regardless of what ID you use!

My husband had a nightmarish time at the airport over them not seeing his picture back a few months ago. We made sure we he got his license redid before we flew again. They about had him strip search, it was awful!

As a mom, I'd hate for that to happen to your 17 yr old daughter! I have a 13 yr old daughter....she'd die over that one!

Have a ball & I'm sure someone will come around to answer your question!

If she has a picture ID from school, that will be fine. Honestly, so will her expired permit if it's a picture one along with her bc.

Time to send off for a passport tho. They do come in handy ;)

State issued. Her permit dosen't have a photo does it? Can you get a non driver's licence to go with the BS.

Of course a passport would be best. How long befor you cruise?

Boy you should have put in for a state id card. But as far as I know after reading document required, you should be ok with her b/c. Since she isn't 18 yet.

If you want to be on the safe side, all DMV's have identification cards with a photo id you can have made. Cost is minimal, like 5-10 dollars. It's issued so therefore has more of that legal look than the school id's. You can walk right in and have it done.

Thanks so much. I called my PVP at Carnival and he said the expired permit will be fine. They are just concerned with the name and picture. It does have a picture on it. I know Carnival sometimes give different answers to the same questions and I will hate to have problems. She is a past guest.

Even if she doesn't have a driver's license, I'm sure all states offer a state ID card issued thru the Dept of Motor Vehicles. Why not call DMV and ask cost, how long to get etc. Some states can issue the ID card with photo immediately because of new equipment. Definitely would be worth the call.

We live in IL. We can go to the DMV and get an ID with pic for $20 (I think) and be out with it in 20 minutes. My DGS had to do that last year. He was only 15 and didn't have his DL yet.

Good luck to you all and have a wonderful cruise.

Are you flying? Because I'm pretty sure you can't fly with an expired ID.
Yes - you can but you will be subjected to additional security checks (patted down, luggage searched and swiped with the swabs) This happened to my son.

Now since she is a minor traveling with parents they may not even ask for ID at the airport.

My daughter just returned from a trip to San Francisco. They noticed at the airport she had an expired drivers license at the security check and made her return to the front to get an ok on her boading pass. They finally let her go. She had the same thing coming back. So they will let you on apparently but a bit of a hassel.

Even if you've been told by someone at Carnival that it will be okay, if you're anything like me, I'd still be paranoid about it.

You've got time to get a ID card printed at your local DMV. Why would you risk not having valid identification?

My younger brother, 15, has flown twice with us on vacation without ID, and all they've done is scribble a code on his boarding pass, so he always got his carry-on rifled through while going through security.

A couple of weeks ago my mom and I went on the Ecstacy, and she had an expired ID that had been expired for almost two months. They didn't notice the expiration date, just looked at the name and photo.

This is your vacation. If there's even the slightest bit question, why would you not go ahead and get a valid ID just to be safe? Just because one person got through with an expired license doesn't mean the person checking you in will be as lenient.

I would hate to see anyone miss their vacation because of something they had plenty of time to fix, and at a minimal cost. You may as well take your $2-$3k to the casino and gamble it!
