May princess bride Posted May 28, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 28, 2007 We will be stopping in Le Havre in September and would like to go to the Palace of Versailles on our own. I am not very familiar with the train systems in Europe, though hear they are very efficient. Unless I am missing something or am not doing something right, it doesn't look like there is a train from Le Havre to Versailles (especially the stop of Versailles Rive-Gauche, which is closer than the Chantiers stop). Is this true? Do I have to go into Paris by train and then make a transfer/connection? Has anybody travelled from Le Havre to Versailles by train? I suppose we can always to the cruiseline excursion but we really dislike "motorcoach" travel if it's more than an hour (husband is extremely tall, so no leg room for him) which is the case with the bus excursions. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Rare HeinBloed Posted May 28, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 28, 2007 Let me follow you from Northern Europe and the Baltic Sea... Versailles-Chantier is about 1 mile away from Versailles-Rive Gauche Chateau. If you can live with this there is a TGV-(High-Speed-Train)-connection available at 08.02 hrs and you are at Versailles-Chantier at 10.05 hrs. As you have not mentioned the date of travel and the ship/berth time you must check yourself for your individual itinery: http://www.voyages-sncf.com Enter: Havre i/o Le Havre to get Le Havre.
