2sightseers Posted June 3, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 3, 2007 Will be on t/a in April '08 and Cherbourg is one of the ports. Can anyone recommend tour company that does winery tours? Saving the LeHavre port to do tour of Normandy and would appreciate any info on tours there as well. Thanks:)
The Monocled Mutineer Posted June 3, 2007 #2 Share Posted June 3, 2007 ... but Cherbourg and it's hinterland is not exactly wine country. Normandy is famous though for it's Calvados (Apple brandy).
gratefulguy Posted June 4, 2007 #3 Share Posted June 4, 2007 You are more likely to find tours of cheese making, cider production, and even textiles, than wineries. Unless you can get fast transport to the Loire or Champagne regions, you may want to plan another trip to visit the vineyards of France. Your local library may have some good books to use in researching that part of your cruise. There are ads for wine touring companies in the back of Wine Spectator and Decanter magazines. You may choose to visit a Calvados Distillery But they are closer to Le Havre than to Cherbourg. Remains the cheese makers but the most famous dairies are not around Cherbourg. From Cherbourg you may tour to the Mont Saint Michel or the Landing Beaches (Utha) and from Le Havre tour to Distilleries, cheese makers and so on. Unfortunatly only the British tours have such tours what they title "a taste of Normandy". From le Havre you would have probably to do it on your own either you hire a car, a taxi or a private tour. Last news : there is a Rent a Car subsidiary at the port now and they can bring the car at the port. All the best:)
