Bernbun29 Posted June 4, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 4, 2007 This is our first cruise, when in port (St. Marten, St. Thomas), will the vendors take credit cards, or do I need travelers checks, or is cash best?
bobbyfk Posted June 4, 2007 #2 Share Posted June 4, 2007 when we went to St.Thomas almost all of them took CC'S. But if you going to use your CC call the company to let them know you are traveling so they don't report your card as stolen
AAAAmerican Posted June 4, 2007 #3 Share Posted June 4, 2007 Have all three. Banks here moistly give Travelers Checks FREE now. We just did our banking for this trip Friday coming today , Sunday. Yes here Banks are open Seven Days for all serrvices too. Well except the Stock Exchanges.. When in those Ports most vendors do take Discover Card a MS:NYSE A Morgan Stanley company. But I do carry a MC too. Cash is always accepted and ask for Change in American..

PuckStopper13 Posted June 4, 2007 #5 Share Posted June 4, 2007 Just an FYI about traveler's checks, some islands would take them. We couldn't use ours in Dominca or Isla Margarita.

Fuzzzy Posted June 4, 2007 #7 Share Posted June 4, 2007 I think traveler's cheques (and cheques in general) are becoming a thing of the past. Like typewriters, radio tubes, tape recorders, pet rocks, donkey kong, leisure suits, etc. Plastic or cash is the way to go. Or online purchases and/or payments. Colo Cruiser Posted June 4, 2007 #8 Share Posted June 4, 2007 I don't cary a lot of cash when ashore, do use credit cards for the most part and sometimes take travelers checks which the pursers desk will cash whenever I need the cash. :)
