Should I make the Owner's Suite Leap?

Recommended Posts

One of my dear friends, who posts on CC, said, "My husband and I always get a suite. We spend a lot of time in our room. A lot of time." Then they passed the most loving look between them. I didn't know whether to be touched, or icked out! LOL! They've been married twenty plus years. If sailing in a suite makes for a marriage as stong as theirs, I say, bring on the suite!

Sorry if your friend is reading, but I vote for icked out.

(More power to them, if they're spending all their time . . . umm . . . enjoying each other's company in the cabin, but if I were their friend, I don't think I'd really want to hear about it.)

I am so addicted, this is awful ... or is it?

Looking at Mariner, Owner's Ste, Hump 1320, Dec 08 ... Figure that gives me 18 months to pay for it Is this suite worth it? ... Who am I kidding ... :p

Cost is always an issue, the only way I could possible do this is to book so far in advance. And looking at the other cabins, not so sure I could get such a sweet location :p

How much a difference was it??

We have had an OS on the Mariner and also have had a GS(NV)........tell you the truth, the GS was plenty big enough for the two of us......the OS has the dining table and chairs which we never sat at............

For the most part, suites are the exception in our book(and those suites were upgrades--we did not pay full price).........not the norm...........for 7 nighters, we get a regular balcony......

This is a case of T.M.I. = Too Much information. Now if you had a NC-17 film crew on board and the married couple were lookers that would get some attention but otherwise it's way to much. I will say that is unusual for a couple married over 20 years to act like newlyweds.....:D

Balcony was a LOT less, JS still a significant amount less. :o

I'm looking at this as my last stitch effort to pursuade my MSO to LOVE cruising. We're going Dec '07 on Serenade, however I had tothreaten him with that one. He gets Seattle, I get a cruise  Thinking the OS may just sway his thoughts. He's a 5 star kinda guy, unfortunately my budget is a camping kinda deal ... lol.

That ... and ... I WANNA ... LOL. Been in a balcony, been in a JS, didn't like the locations of the GS so sucked it up and booked the OS :p Just have to keep looking for those price drops.

And this will be the last big vacation (cruise) for the two of us before my daughter leaves for college.

I think I'm still trying to convince myself ... hhmmm .........

I’m quaking in my boots,6.gif but I’m going to say it…..but first I’ll say that I love RCCL…….for what it is. It is a fabulous cruise line for families of all ages because it offers something for everyone…….except the person looking for a 5 star vacation.

If it is just the two of you….I don’t remember if your DD is with you on this one…..you might want to sail Celebrity or Holland America.

Booked on Serenade, Balcony, Hump, Dec 07.

Looking at Mariner, Owner's Ste, Hump 1320, Dec 08 ... Figure that gives me 18 months to pay for it and the MSO can't get too upset when I spring it on him NEXT YEAR ... LOL

Help ! ! ! Will I be able to go back to a Balcony? Will I be able to keep the secret? Is this suite worth it? ... Who am I kidding ... :p

It is going to be very tough, VERY TOUGH, to go back. I have done 2 cruises in full S Suites on the HAL ships and I just did the Explorer in a D and I thought the D was tiny. It is very hard to get used to a normal sized room once you have sailed in a suite. Just be aware of this.

Been married 26 years, neither of us are "lookers" any longer...if we ever were! Sometimes when you get away from the everyday pressure and stress of life you can enjoy "things" a little more. Let's see how you feel when you reach 40 - 50 years of age. My money says you will see things differently.

It's just the two of us, let me rephrase, he THINKS he's a five start kinda guy  Boys will be boys and there are certain things that ... if "I say" it's a good deal, it's not ... however, if you, or anyone else were to say it is the best vacation ever, he'd jump on board. Kinda silly, I know, but I have my little quirks that way with him as well. He had a blast on AOS last Dec, but he thinks that cruising is something you should only do every few years ... where, if you ask me ... I should just sell my house and move in ... LOL. I was brought up near the water, he's a city guy. I love him but geez oh flip ... LOL ! !

We're on SOS Dec 8, '07. Hump 8596, hoping it's all I've heard it to be.

Booked MOS Nov 30, '08 1320 hump OV, again hoping it's all I've heard.

I'll spring it on him, and if necessary just pack him with the rest of my stuff :p

One more vote for ICKY .. however I do think it's cute. My parents have been married FOREVER and still hold hands and "TMI"

And akysmom ... "neither of us are "lookers" any longer...if we ever were" ... if that's your pic on your signature ... you are a very nice looking woman ;) He better hang on to you ! ! !

Back on subject, MSO and I don't get very much time together, seperate houses (seperate children) so a cruise is great for getting him (and me) away from the everyday for some much needed spontanious "TMI" ... and we can both use a little luxury ...

I have been in one Grand Suite, and 2 Penthouses-love the Suites!! The other cruises were oceanview and balconies. The perks are great.

Make sure you use the Concierge Lounge daily. That really does get close to the 5 star experience. By the time we booked our upcoming cruise all the suites were taken and DH is really having a cow about not being able to use the lounge. I keep telling him we only need 5 more cruise credits and he can use the lounge anytime. :D

Now if only credits from RCCL and Celebrity were the same. ;)

OK, how can I put this ... that doesn't suck ! ! LOL

I think that might just do the trick ! ! If not for my MSO then definitly for me ! !

OH MY YES ! ! !

I may just spend the whole cruise out on the balcony ... in between baths ! ! ! I had no idea, the RCCL webside does NOT do it justice.

I'm definitely sold ... MOS OS 1320 here I come ... MSO or not ... LOL :p

Wish we could do the New Year's cruise with you, however the first two weeks of Dec seem to be the only time we can get away for an entire week

btw: MSO = Monogimous Significant Other :)

On one of our cruises we decided to upgrade from a grand to an owners and the only problem was that on our next cruise we booked a grand and I was very upset because I was spoiled by the OS room.

Because of my daughter going to college and home improvements we will be unable to do suites and I am having trouble just booking a balcony room.

If you want a suite for the large balcony I highly recommend the Grand Suite instead of the owners’ suit. The balcony for the OS balcony is 64 sq ft and the GS’s is 95 sq ft. We actually down graded on our last cruise because it was the balcony size and not the cabin size that was most important to us. The GS is a fabulous cabin with plenty of space and tons of storage.

As for going back to an ordinary balcony….I’m not so sure. DH is still upset because only JS were available for our upcoming cruise. :D

Do you know if this is also true for the Adventure of the Seas ? I ask because I am booked for OS next March.....thanks !!!

DO IT DO IT DO IT !!!!

It may going back a little tough - but you only live once -- this is not

a dress rehearsal !! I had to book the OS on AOS because last year we

were on NCL Jewel in one of the Courtyard Villas. OMG - spoiled for life.

If NCL's casino marketing hadnt ticked me off, we'd be with them forever.

Alas - I spend my money where they respect it -- thats why we're on RCCL. anyway, you won't regret it.......

enjoy!!!

Would booking an OS be acting your income? If so, do it. But, like others said, there may be no turning back. We tried to go back to a balcony stateroom after our suite and won't ever do it again. Similarly, we have a 2/2 condo in Orlando for vacations. So our typical vacation is 1400 square feet, jacuzzi tub, lake view, granite countertops... Hotel rooms are hard to stay in for us now.

We booked a GS last year and received an upgrade to an OS. It was fabulous

The movie clips show the room/bathroom in 360 (and my kid's reaction as they didn't know we got an upgrade). There are more room pics here/there in the album.

We booked a GS this year and we'll love it, but my God that OS was awesome. AWESOME.

Side note: it's much easier to pack to go home when you have a lot of space to lay things out. LOL

Roughly how much are the GS and Owner's Suite categories?

Thank you for the pics. We will be in cabin 1630 in August. I can't wait. Did you say it had a whirlpool tub? I may never leave the cabin. DH loves the extra room.
