Gratuity 9 Hour Tour

We are doing a few tours in Italy, If the driver does a nice job for a

9 hour tour, Can anyone tell me what the average gratuity would be.

It's really personal preference and it varies all over the board...

I've seen books with recommendations of $5 per couple for a half-day shore excursion and $10 for a full day...But, that would be for a bus tour with 35 or 40 people on it...If you have a private tour or a small group, I'd say you go higher...

 

Also, figure if you're paying, say, $300 for the tour, is 10-15% ($30-45) out of line? I'd think not...especially if the guide is very good...

 

Also, note in some instances, you may have both a driver and a guide...In that case, I may give 10% to the guide and 5% to the driver...

 

Or, if it's one of those large bus tours, $10 to the guide and another $5 to the driver...

 

But, I really don't think there's any standard...
