whale watching Juneau vs Sitka ??

I know Juneau seems the be "the place" to whale watch, but what about Sitka???

Having trouble finding a good independent whale watch tour in Juneau -they seem to be all booked -- truly don't want the cruise line long lines and crowds....

Have found the Esther C in Sitka (who has excellent reviews) has availablity, but not sure how much different it will be in regards to seeing whales....

Any input appreciated.

This is a fantastic tour for varied wildlife, with humpbacks usually. Not all the time viewing of the dedicated whale watches out of Juneau, but excellent trips certainly. Especially with no availability out of Juneau, definately consider this.

We went with Capt. Davey on the Ester G last year. It is the BEST tour we have taken!!! Eagles, whales, a few puffins still there in August and harbor seals. Capt. Davey is very knowledgeable about Sitka Sound and very compassionate about his spot in the world. Absolutely book with him if he still has an opening.
