Rare Lois R Posted June 19, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 19, 2007 Hi,:) I posted this over on the fashion forum and was told this board is very helpful too:D I will be in Victoria and Vancouver for the 1st time in October! Sailing on Mercury out of Seattle:) Would some of you natives be able to give me an educated reply concerning the weather. Long sleeves and slacks? Sweaters? Layering? Thanks for any help:)
Luckysll Posted June 19, 2007 #2 Share Posted June 19, 2007 I love October. It can be warm days and cool evenings, or it can be rainy and cold. I'd definitely recommend layers and a rainproof jacket.
dam1050 Posted June 19, 2007 #3 Share Posted June 19, 2007 Lois - Vancouver and especially Victoria are the mildest parts of Canada. In October you could probably expect to have daytime highs in the upper 50's (F.) and lows in the upper 40's (F.). Some years "Indian Summers" can keep the temps even nicer. As noted above, make sure you have something rainproof as well. Enjoy your cruise on the Mercury and in the Pac NW ! Dave
Rare Lois R Posted June 19, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted June 19, 2007 Hi Dave:) Thanks....I love those kind of temps:) I live in Florida and it is humid from May through Sept:eek: so that will be a great change of pace for me! I have had a few people tell me I need to experience the Hight Tea at the Empress and I definitely want to see Buchart Gardens! So now I have to get through the summer and I will be back on my favorite ship:D
dam1050 Posted June 19, 2007 #5 Share Posted June 19, 2007 I have had a few people tell me I need to experiencethe Hight Tea at the Empress and I definitely want to see Buchart Gardens! I loved the Mercury as well --- sailed her back when they did the "Adults Only" New Year sailing to Mexican Riviera a few years ago, it was wonderful! :D As to Victoria , I personally find the high tea at Empress to be a bit of a rip-off, but it does seem popular with many people. The Butchart Gardens on the other hand is fantastic at any time of the year http://www.butchartgardens.com/main.php and is always on my "must visit" list each time I go to the island. It will be even less crowded when you visit, making it that much more enjoyable. Dave
Rare Lois R Posted June 19, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted June 19, 2007 Dave, thanks for the link:) I have a friend who lives in Vancouver so hopefully I will have a private guide for the day:) These 2 short cruises will be my 4th and 5th time on Mercury:D I went back in March out of San Diego to the Mexican Riveria! Saw many staff and crew I knew from prior cruises! It was fabulous:D Now if you count the months....it will be 7 months in October. It would be great if there are crew on this sailing I know as well. I sail solo and they always make me feel so welcomed!
sharke Posted June 20, 2007 #7 Share Posted June 20, 2007 We were on this same cruise for our anniversary last October. It was wonderful. Unfortunately for us it was mostly rain. We had booked a seaplane ride into Butchart Gardens but it was cancelled due to severe fog. We went there anyway by bus and enjoyed it even in the mist. It was in the fifties so a light rain jacket kept us comfy. We had mostly hard rain in Vancouver but also enjoyed ourselves on the hop on hop off bus all the while wearing our raingear. Astoria was beautiful in the sixties and sunny. San Francisco was lovely, sunny and in the sixties also. Enjoy!
