Does anyone have pictures of the ship arriving to HK ...
Not arriving, but I've just picked up these two images on webcams, which may show the ship departing this afternoon (23 June). I'm not enough of a ship nut to know whether it is her, but there seems to be a decent possibility:-

Indeed the largest casino afloat. Admiral club on deck 11 alone is the size of Maharajahs on the Spirit, imagine the size of Star Club on deck 10!

The ship looked virtually new in many parts(Blue Lagoon, Lounge, Club). Have limited photos, will post them ASAP and the review too.

The webcam photo with the ship is most probably the Aquarius. I am in that picture somewhere.

Take some photos if you can. :)

If we see her, we'll take photos.

We never sailed on the Wind but have sailed twice on the Dream with our third cruise booked. When I mentioned that the Wind was now in Hong Kong DH wondered why we were spending every night in a hotel in HK

Suppose to replace the old casino ship Wasa Queen. Dailly cruise to no where. Read that as gambling in International waters. At last count it is competing with 8 other casino ships in HK. I just think what Star Cruises would do with all the empty cabins now as the local like to gamble right through the night and then go straight to work when the ship docks back in HK in the morning.

From the Press Release

"The ship also provides world-class entertainment shows, with rich regional characteristics, including the US$1 million production “Kingdom of Kung Fu”, the fantastic “Tropicalia” featuring South American dancers and award-winning Chinese acrobats, and the fabulous Thailand’s “Bangkok Lady Boys” broadway show...with the aim to impress the cruisers with endless surprises."

With BLB's presumably referring to the young, if not underage, transvestite "hospitality workers" for which Bangkok is notorious, one can easily imagine that there will be surprises. Maybe not endless ones, but surprises all the same...

I've seen one of these shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It's pretty tame and mainstream stuff.

Please explain how transvestite and mainstream can be used in the same breath.
Have you ever heard of Danny la Rue? Dame Edna Everage? RuPaul? Evita Bezuidenhout? All pretty mainstream stuff, in different fields.

The LadyBoys of Bangkok is largely in the same vein. Maybe they're a bit more exotic in that at least some of them will be transsexual/transgender rather than simply transvestite, but very little that's GLBT is particularly outre these days!

Your definition of mainstream and mine must be very different indeed.

Maybe so, but I have to tell you that Dame Edna is absolutely mainstream here in the UK. Prime time TV viewing, family entertainment etc. And the actor who plays her has just picked up a serious honour in the latest honours list.

But, you have to agree things in the UK (and most of Europe) are much more liberal tending towards socialistic than here in the U.S.

I watched a documentary about the ladyboys, they are an accepted part of society there. People enjoy the shows put on by them, and to be honest I am sure that if you were in Thailand and ran into one on the street you wouldn't bat an eye, they are usually very feminine in appearance, not like what we call drag queens here in the states.

These should not be confused with prostitutes, that is not what they are, there may be some, but that can be said about just about every segment of society.

But' date=' you have to agree things in the UK (and most of Europe) are much more liberal tending towards socialistic than here in the U.S.[/quote']Speaking about the UK: general society is very probably more liberal and free than in the US. Which is why I happily concede that your definition of mainstream may be very different from mine, although the places I usually go in the US seem to have attitudes little different from those in the UK.

But socialism's got nothing to do with it. There's not much socialism to be found anywhere here any more, except in the political fringes.

  • 2 weeks later...

I am in Hong Kong this week (7/17) and from across the bay, I could see a cruise ship at the ocean terminal on Kowloon. I went over and saw that it was the Star Aquarius docked there.

I took some pictures of her bow and part of one side of the ship. That was close as I could get to her at the dock. I took the Star Ferry back to Hong Kong Island and was able to get a side photo of her aft and smokestack.

An hour later, the Star Pisces came into port as well. I did take a photo of her from my hotel room window.

When I return, I will post the pictures.
