You can use your onboard credit to pay for it..Oh wait, you dont get any!!! LMAO!!!!!! :p Ooohhh......meeeooow Get back to the topic, basically we are talking about the service industry here and maybe those who choose to work in it should serve the people and be happy to do so, if they don't like what they get paid, they should do something else, and then maybe their employer's would realise they have to pay them better wages. Or do what we do here, pay the better wages and eating out costs more, (sure) but their is no AWS, unless we choose to "Tip" for outstanding service :D:D
AZbeachboy Posted July 14, 2007 #157 Share Posted July 14, 2007 Hey Kaz !!! Not upset in the least, these threads are fun , and this is a "tipping Thread ";) .Just today I had a client receive a whole new Style/Color from me, she is Canadian(ie;no tip from her , and that's perfectly fine with me ), however, she went home and called me later on to say what a difference I had made in her life, and how much she loved my work... That gave me the warm fuzzies, and I was happy the rest of the day... much nicer than money yes !! But since we are talking about tipping waiters, etc. and I am American, I can sincerly say that money is also very well appreciated, different from bribing because the service has already been rendered. I too think that this is a cultural issue... PS: where else can you talk to a person from half way around the world !! Charles :p Are you the owner of this business? Owners and management do not get tipped.
Chivalrygirl Posted July 14, 2007 #158 Share Posted July 14, 2007 Are you the owner of this business? Owners and management do not get tipped. Yep and I have a bit of a problem here as well. Don't hairdressers consider themselves as the "Professionals" Down here we hold our professionals in high esteem as we are their "clients". Maybe in the States you actually throw a tip at your, Doctor, Medical Specialist, Attorney, Principal of the College etc. etc. to name but a few. if not, why the hec would you want to tip your hairdresser ? smeyer418 Posted July 14, 2007 #159 Share Posted July 14, 2007 The custom in the US is to tip hairdressers, barbers etc. It is also correct that you don't normally tip the owner of the shop. Yes I know its not the way down under but frankly if you are here you should follow here's rules if not you are giving your country a bad name as a bunch of cheap stiffing ANZACS. I know you don't like this but that's the way it is. I don't know many hairdressers/barbers who went to school for 6 plus years to be a professional. You don't have to tip the hairdresser in NZ and I promise you when I am there I won't either.

You guys just don't seem to recognise "tongue in the cheek" :( and if I went around here stiffing other Anzacs I would be under lock and key, 15 years to life :p Just another cultural difference . ;)

AZbeachboy Posted July 14, 2007 #165 Share Posted July 14, 2007 Thank you all who made me an honorary aussie. You have given me the strength to fight this horriable need to tip because that is the way it is. Now I can just tell the pursers office(and everyone else with their hand out) that I am aussie and we do not tip. Thanks very much. I feel freed. smeyer418 Posted July 14, 2007 #166 Share Posted July 14, 2007 We also have a reputation here of not stiffing our employees by paying them a proper wage. Cheers, yes I wouldn't mind a change here but I am not going to change it by not tipping the employees whose major income is made up of tips. Maybe they should become unionized and strike for higher wages and make it mandatory as part of the cruise fare...until then however if I don't tip I'll just say I am from New Zealand. But if you are in a place that does tip and you say I don't tip because tipping if not the custom of the moon I am from....shame on you. Since there are only 4 million from NZ and 20 million from Australia I must say the chances are you will be in the minority any way. Americans are know for being generous...loud but generous...and on the ship there will be 90% of us. I still hate these threads....
smeyer418 Posted July 15, 2007 #167 Share Posted July 15, 2007 I am killing myself thinking about Americans, millions of them, that are happy to pass over their hard earned dollars on which they have paid very hansomely their share of the taxes of the USA. Now if that does not make you wonder who the hec is the loser here then I give up. BTW Smeyer you can sling off as much as you like, but I have spent days on a ship with at least 80% mostly very loud Americans, a whole heap of which the crew totally detested, how do I know, because they told me so. They were so happy to be at sea with a more than usual contingent of Aussies and Kiwis  Oh well lets live and forget, I call it QUITS  yes we are loud but at 301 million of us they would go out of business with out us. smeyer418 Posted July 15, 2007 #170 Share Posted July 15, 2007 But I am sure they can get a job on the cruise ships and earn their wages through tips just like all the other hard done by crew!!LOL!!! TIC they get tips? not from many people on this board...:) don't you think they should close this thread already?
AZbeachboy Posted July 15, 2007 #171 Share Posted July 15, 2007 They don't cruise they can't leave the country.... Neither can many of the 302,000,000 here legally. They cannot afford it because cheap companies will not pay a decent wage! Besides, many here illegally can go back to their home country and get hired for the cruise ships. happyscot Posted July 15, 2007 #172 Share Posted July 15, 2007 You're all illegals (charming word) since you unlawfully usurped the established government of good King George, who sought only to please, and never once invaded Iraq. OK, stretching it a bit, it's early, got sent to make early morning tea and saw the computer. "Turn me on, 300 million yanks to upset, turn me on........". Thought it was DW, but sadly no...........
