I fully understand the smart casual/formal dress code for the dining room. My question is, on any given night, can you wear shorts and or jeans with a nice shirt in the Cafe del Sol buffet and Pizzeria? Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer me! Just keep in mind that if you are in shorts and a t-shirt on formal night you might feel a little out of place walking around the ship. That part is up to you. On formal nites if I chose not to dine in the dining room I will go to the buffet in shorts(for warm weather cruises) but on formal nite I wear a nice pair of slacks and top. Since you have posted that you have never gone to the buffet on a Princess ship later than mid afternoon are you positive he would probably be the only one wearing shorts at dinner time? After getting off the Caribbean Princess a couple of weeks ago the number of people we saw in formal attire after dinner, was minuscule compared to the number in shorts and t-shirts. The Caribe Cafe was always overflowing with people on Formal nights, while the empty tables in the dining rooms was significant. Yes, have a great time! Another poster stated not so many shorts......not true:p Loads of people in short and T-shirts in the buffet, you won't be out of place at all. I always wear a suit and tie to the dining room on formal nights ... but often, after dinner, I'll go back the the room and change to more comfortable clothes to go to the casino or hang around some other part of the ship. But reading this thread I had the idea that it might make sense, and be more fun, to replace some/all of the fomal nights with Hawaiin attire.:) Hey, maybe the same for Mexican Rivera cruises. Guayabara shirts in place of the tux? The ladies in those lovely full Mexican skirts and white blouses. Brilliant! I would say the dress on the Hawaii cruise was rather casual. Lots of Hawaiian shirts and dresses, lots of capris and sundresses even at dinner. The formal nights were a mix of tuxes, suits, blazers and slacks for the men and everything from gowns to dresses you would wear to church. There was a sign at the dining room that said no shorts allowed at dinner but said nothing about jeans. We saw people who had on jeans at dinner. On formal nights we saw lots of folks who looked like they had changed out of formal clothes to more comfortable clothes after dinner. Those who didn't go to the dining room at all had their shorts on in the evening. There was one night that the dress was island attire for dinner. What was most scary were the number of people lounging around the pool who should have not been wearing two piece bathing suits or speedos!!!! We just returned from the Tahitian Princess and in our setting everying was dressed except one the first formal night. The second time everyone was.
