Convertible our Tour for the Road to Hana

Hi! I was looking for recommendations for the road to Hana. should we take a tour or rent a car. I am used to driving a full sized bus in the adirondacks so I do't think the driving will bother me. I do however want to take a lot of pictures probably setting up a tripod etc. Will I be pushed for time with this on a tour? Also what time of day is best for this drive. Thanks.:) I appreciate any advise or input.

we rented a convertible for our road to hana trip. (it was a chrysler crossfire, and it was c-o-o-l!!) personally, i preferred this over a tour because we could go for as long as we wanted, we could stop whenever we wanted, etc., etc.

common sense tip for the convertible, though: wear sunscreen on your ears, face, neck, and forearms! we're still peeling...
