Beaches in NYC area

Last time we were in NYC, we took the subway out to Coney Island for a day. We would like to try a different beach this time. Can anyone recommend a family friendly beach that is accessible easily by public transportation?

Try Brighton Beach (like Coney Island, easily accessible by subway) and then have dinner at one of the Russian restaurants there. For a scenic boat trip followed by a great beach in New Jersey, look at a trip on SeaStreak:

Try Jones Beach, so much better. This is from MTA web site:

LIRR--Long Island Rail Road. If from Manhattan then train goes from Penn Station, between 32nd and 33rd streets and &th and 8th Ave.

 

I personally never used train to go there, only car. But the beach is nice.

Try Long Beach, my hometown. You can take the LIRR and walk a few blocks to the beach. Easier to get to then Jones Beach. And we have great restaurants.

 

The LIRR has a ticket and beach pass special, too.

I would agree with the other poster. I would take a look at Jones Beach.

I have lived in Brooklyn, NY all my life. I agree with the either Jones Beach or Long Beach. it is definetly worth the extra money on the Long Island Railroad.

 

Both these beaches are MUCH different than Coney Island and Brighton Beach.
