rellersi Posted July 9, 2007 #5 Share Posted July 9, 2007 Most if not all Carnival ships now have poker tables from an outfit called Poker Pro. Their plan is to have these on all ships soon. Poker Pro tables are electronic, no chips, you purchase a card at the cashier which you insert into the machine, usually $30 min buy in. You sit in front of a video screen where your two cards are displayed, the community cards and the betting shows in the middle, much like online games, The limits on Victory were 3/6, Victory did not have any no-limit type tournaments, but I would think that would vary depending on the casino host on the particular ship. Some people that I played with liked it, the games move quicker, you don't have to stack chips etc., but most including myself would have preferred live dealers

dadofgage Posted July 10, 2007 #9 Share Posted July 10, 2007 Just got off the Celebration and they had the PokerPro machine/table. In one word - they SUCKED! First, it was 3/6 limit. Next, they rake was large in my opinion. It even took $1 when the blinds just got folded. So every person folds to the big blind, and it still took a $1. Max rate for the rake was $5 when the pot got up to $40 (I think). Lastly, it seemed (please no rants) that the machine paid off the guy with the most money most of the time. I bought in my first night for $100 and was up to over $250 without a problem (while most of the other players bought in for $30-$50. I was catching cards left and right, but I was playing fairly tight. Weird stuff too - flopping full houses on 3-8 off suit. This happened frequently. I came back the second day and lost about $80 buying in for only $40 each time from that point. Lost QQ to a guy playing with over $400 when he played 2-7 off and caught 4 cards to a flush. It just seemed strange with the hands that were being caught. I ended up just quitting on it and saying, no thanks to any more play.

Kacruiser Posted July 10, 2007 #11 Share Posted July 10, 2007 We were on the Spirit last year and they had an actual poker room. My husband played Texas Holdem with other players and one of the casino guys was the dealer. He said there were two games thought the minimum buyin was $20. The blinds were 3/6 and 4/8 depending on which table you sat at. He had a ball. Hope this helps.
jbooth2099 Posted July 10, 2007 #12 Share Posted July 10, 2007 I hope they don't all go to the machine thing. Went on Ecstacy last year, live dealers, had a blast. Going on Fantasy in Sept. I think they have the machines. I doubt that I will play. Not having a dealer takes away from the game. May as well save the $$ for home games. Kacruiser Posted July 13, 2007 #17 Share Posted July 13, 2007 VW guys, go to www.oceanplayersclub.com and they should be able to tell you if it's real poker or machine poker. Last cruise there were 95+ of us and we always bring chips and cards. Had a couple of texas holden games, $20 buy in. OK so my husband plays poker and drives a tricked out VW golf, this is a little spooky. Is farfenugen code for poker player?? :D
