AdrieneAGD Posted August 18, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 18, 2004 Hey all - Some folks travelling with us on the 9/5 Mariner had booked the St. John Eco Hike excursion, and were just notified that it has been cancelled. They're understandably bummed, but at least RCI was up-front with them and refunded their money immediately upon the cancellation. So, here's my question: does anyone know if an independent operater has this excursion available for them to purchase independently from RCI? They would still like to do the hike if possible. Otherwise, they may do the beach break excursion instead.
AdrieneAGD Posted August 18, 2004 Author #2 Share Posted August 18, 2004 No one? :) Well, here's another thought - they're looking into just going over by themselves and walking around. How hard is it to do that?

39august Posted August 18, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 18, 2004 There's tons of info on getting to and around St. John on your own on the Ports of Call boards. Just click into St. Thomas and you'll find out all you want to know! We plan to go on our own in a couple of weeks!
slpinny Posted August 18, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 18, 2004 I'm sorry to hear that your excursion was cancelled. Did they happen to tell you why it was cancelled? I am guessing that lack of interest wouldn't really apply since your cruise is still a few weeks away and many people would book on board... we are supposed to go next week.Just wondering, if you happen to know. Thanks!
imsulin Posted August 18, 2004 #6 Share Posted August 18, 2004 On our first trip to St. John, (1989?) we just rented an open-air jeep and went wherever we wanted, including Trunk Bay and the Annaberg Sugar Mill. It's a very small island, with just a few roads. The tricky part was shifting with your left hand and driving on the left side. Also, when the ferry arrives, there are many local taxi drivers who can take you anywhere you'd like to go, and will negotiate for the whole day.
