Sisa Posted July 18, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 18, 2007 Hi, We are going to be at the Princess Copper River lodge in August. We haven't found much information on activities in the area. Does anyone have any ideas for us? Princess lists a number of excursions, which we could do. However, I was interested in people's feedback. We might book a tour that would combine a boat trip, nature watch, and visit to an old prospector's camp, as well as a visit to Copper Center. How does that sound? Also, does anyone know of any place in this area that one might book horseback riding? Any information at all would be deeply appreciated. Thanks, Lise
NancyIL Posted July 18, 2007 #2 Share Posted July 18, 2007 We spent 2 nights in Kennicott, in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. We flew to McCarthy from Chitina with Wrangell Mountain Air, and the time we spent in the old copper mining town was the highlight of our land trip. Princess offers day trips to McCarthy/Kennicott - though they aren't inexpensive (about $300/pp). There is a day trip that does the 2.5-hour mill tour, and another that goes on a 5-hour hike to Root Glacier. We did both - and the hike was considerably more strenuous than what the description led me to believe! It was still a fantastic experience. http://www.wrangellmountainair.com/alaska_day_tours.htm http://princesslodges.com/copper-historic-flight-adventure.htm http://princesslodges.com/copper-fly-drive.htm http://princesslodges.com/copper-kennicott-mccarthy-shuttle.htm (The price/time variations are due to the different transportation options: roundtrip flight, fly/drive, or roundtrip drive.)
