How is the RCCL food?

Don, this is what so many people say, but I found just the opposite last week on the Voyager. EVERY beef dish that my kids and I had was EXCELLENT, and we tried several, and the house steak (NOT the ranch steak, thank goodness!) more than once. Each serving was tender and flavorful. We all like our beef done differently, and each of us got what we had ordered, every time.

Maybe I'm just lucky; maybe they took all that money I lost in the casino and applied it to my food budget!

Carol, good to hear. Iam starting to get the feeling that quaility and preparation of food like meat can vary alot from ship-to-ship within the same line. Five years ago, I was able to order a thick(prime-cut) n.Y. steak and iam not sure you can get this now without paying extra in Chops. I know alot of people stand in line for the Zizzler steak that the last time I was there (never again) I wouldn't give my dog. Dont get me wrong, Iam not questioning your experience and I hope the meat is better on the Jewel next year than we had on the Vision.

I was on the Splendour last March, and DH and I are going next April on the Rhapsody. Here is my take on the food. By the way I cook a lot of gourmet food and read "Food and Wine", etc.

One: The food is not French cooking. Therefore remember the style will be basic American and possibly slight ethnicity thrown into some entrees.

Two: Look carefully at the menu and note the sauces, method of cooking (broiled, steamed, etc.) Perhaps you are used to heavy, salted food.

Three: Careful selection can keep you on a reasonably healthy diet, and remember, you can ask for another Soup, salad, appetizer if you particularly like them.

Four:Ask your waiter for her/his recommendations. I was steered away from steak one night and told to try the red snapper, (it was heavenly).

Lastly, pair a good wine, if you are inclined, and that can make a meal splendid.

The buffet is average. Edible for sure, but choose wisely.

I thought the dining room food was outstanding on VOS last year. It's funny to me to read people describing a two hour meal as an ordeal. I thought it was a huge treat to have lovely multi-course meals every night. The portion sizes aren't huge and the food isn't heavy for the most part. I liked having a little of this and a little of that, with time to relax and digest a bit. My favorite entree was the rack of lamb, which was a melt in your mouth delight. The soups were all wonderful, light and interesting. And the desserts are out of this world. I thought the dining room was way ahead of anything served in American chain restaurants.
