sunlover65 Posted July 20, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 20, 2007 We will be in Ketchikan on Sept 22. Looking for a fishing trip to take that day. Is that to late in the season for salmon fishing or other fish (halibut)?
dcsam Posted July 20, 2007 #2 Share Posted July 20, 2007 It's getting a bit late, but the coho might still be around. The coho there are outstanding fish, both in color of the meat and size. 17 pounders are not uncommon. And they're a great fightining fish. We've only fished them a ways away from town. We much prefer the coho over kings any day. Caroline

milolii Posted July 22, 2007 #5 Share Posted July 22, 2007 Visit: www.sf.adfg.state.ak.us/statewide/WeeklyHome.cfm Fish is not guaranteed, if it was it would be called "catching". Caught several (6+) King Salmon this week, over 25 lbs. ;)

jfhscott Posted July 22, 2007 #7 Share Posted July 22, 2007 But you should definitly fish with Tab of Ketchikan Outdoors (see http://www.ketchfish.com). His knowledge an dboat are clearly superior than what you will likely get from the cruise ship arranged tour.
calicruzr Posted July 23, 2007 #8 Share Posted July 23, 2007 If you are paying over 150.00 to go fishing... what happens to the fish you catch? Do they can it for you or do they just keep it, or is it catch and release?
sunlover65 Posted July 23, 2007 Author #9 Share Posted July 23, 2007 We were also wondering which would be better for Sept either Salmon or Halibut? We can do the fishing out of Juneau that week?
lthomas Posted July 24, 2007 #10 Share Posted July 24, 2007 We went with Ken at Northern Lights. He handled getting all of the fish processed for us and it arrived home about a week after we did. My husband chose to have all of the salmon smoked. Ken made it very easy and painless so the fishers could return to the cruise ship. The processing was not bad but the shipping was around $65. I think the 20 plus pounds of smoked salmon (individually sealed bags) was around $200 processing, shipping and all.
sunlover65 Posted July 29, 2007 Author #11 Share Posted July 29, 2007 We booked with Ken of Northern Lights combination sightseeing and fishing...looking forward to a great trip...and it's not if you catch but the quality of the day...
